We feel very strongly about unweened babies being sold to the general public . It should never happen , we have taken in so many babies that people have bought and not told how hard hand rearing is, there is lots of moving parts and every single one can kill the baby. And anyone that watches us knows majority of babies, even tho I have fed them by hand since 2 wks of age, will always want nothing to do with me once they have weened, this is normal behaviour for animals and humans , the bonding starts when you get baby home and the trust starts
‼️The Bond Doesn’t Begin With a Syringe‼️
🌺With spring arriving, many people start thinking about welcoming a bird into their family. Over the past few weeks, we have already had an influx of people reaching out after purchasing unweaned birds, often because they have been told that hand-feeding a baby bird themselves is the “best way to bond”.
While the intention is understandable, hand-feeding is not a shortcut to creating a strong relationship and it comes with significant risks.🚫
✋️Feeding baby birds is a delicate process that requires knowledge and experience. Formula consistency, temperature, feeding technique, crop health, hygiene, and maintaining the correct environmental temperature are all critical. It is also essential to recognise the early warning signs when something isn’t right, as problems can quickly become life threatening in a young bird.
In the wild, baby birds naturally grow up, develop independence, and eventually leave their parents. Their bond with their parents is not based solely on being fed it is built through safety, communication, learning, and trust. A strong relationship with your bird is developed through the thousands of interactions that happen throughout their life: respecting their body language, providing positive experiences, teaching them new skills, offering choice and control, and becoming someone they feel safe with.🦜
💚A bird does not need you to hand feed them to love you. They need you to understand them, advocate for them, and build trust with them every day.
