UPDATE.
A FEW OF YOU ARE GETTING OFF POINT DESPITE BEING WARNED IN THE POST NOT TO DO IT.
DON'T BE OFFENDED WHEN YOUR SABOTAGING COMMENTS ARE DELETED, BECAUSE THEY WILL BE.
THE DO GOODERS FAVOURING BREEDING NEED TO GO VOLUNTEER IN DOG RESCUES AND POUNDS.
I HOPE THE DO GOODERS ARE MAKING SIGNIFICANT DONATIONS TO RESCUES.
Until you've done a few years of DONATING AND VOLUNTEERING, shut up.
Perhaps Australian's need to drop the sympathy for all these people dumping their dogs and pets on rescues and make them accountable instead.
I know Iron Dog Rescue Inc is also sick to death of it. Sue works tirelessly for the dogs.
Do not get on here defending these people because I will delete it, unless you want to raise or donate all the money and run yourself ragged out here looking after animals, or drive all over the country picking up everyone else's f**k ups, or driving back and forth to the vet or dealing with some amazingly good people and some total idiots.
All these dogs that people want to ditch were bred by SOMEBODY.
Yet no breeder takes responsibility for contributing to the problem.
In the past few weeks we have had 4 separate people contact us who originally reached out to adopt a Maremma from us but DID NOT return our expression of interest form to adopt a maremma.
Now they have all contacted us wanting to dump entire grown up litters of maremmas with us.
So they had gone off and acquired dogs from Gumtree or wherever, and bred pups.
Personally I suspect they wanted to breed litters to sell and it failed due to the massive oversupply of maremmas.
Who with any brains puts undesexed male and female dogs together and thinks they won't breed?
Worse still all these dogs they have bred are around a year old and still running undesexed with their siblings!
So there's a fair chance some of them could be pregnant too.
None of these people want to contribute to the cost of fencing, desexing, feeding, transporting or caring for these dogs.
Even worse is that they all supposedly wanted maremmas to protect livestock yet have not exposed these dogs to any livestock.
So you have a bunch of undesexed maremmas who have been contained in yards and had nothing done with them.
Now they're not sold, and people probably want to go away for Christmas so they think it's someone else's problem 🙄.
Had they handed the pups over when they were really young, we could have taken them all.
Now they're big with different needs, we don't have spare paddocks to put them in as they will take a significant amount of effort to train with livestock and can't just go into existing paddocks.
So perhaps it would have been easier for these people to fill out our application forms and get a trained, desexed dog after all.
Turns out the woman abusing me by text, messenger and calling me a liar all over Facebook is a maremma breeder 🤣.
Not the rescue she pretended to be.
A call to her from the Police appears to have shut down her rubbish.
Anyone else who starts with vexatious garbage will also be dealt with.
To all the other people emailing us with their 'heartbreaking decision to rehome my dog' stuff, learn to make better decisions.
Its not rescues fault that you can't organise yourselves and think dogs are disposable.
Don't abuse us when you hear the truth and don't like it.
Don't hammer on about the housing crisis, it was a long time coming.
Look around and ask yourself if xyz happens can I still look after my pet ?
If the answer is no or don't know.
DON'T GET A PET.
The expectations of people are ridiculous.
We took 2 not very friendly rabbits today from a distressed woman who thought it was a good idea to get them as house pets in a small rented unit with no outside space and no permission from Landlord.
How did she think this was going to end?
Some guy told her they were desexed and house trained and they'd be fine, so she took them.
They're not desexed or house trained and because they're not acting like fluffy toys sitting on her knee she doesn't want them.
They're piddling all over the house and she couldn't catch them 🙄
In the comments I'll put some screenshots of how the Netherlands dealt with dogs.
