You all know what a huge animal lover I am! I also avidly support North East Animal Sanctuary. Michelle Jesson is an incredible human and runs a no kill shelter with an enormous amount of kindness and compassion.

For those that don’t know, Zeus and Venus and Yolly’s little man Marz all came from Michelle’s rescue.

Well today I’d like to introduce you to a special soul, a darling Greyhound named Quinn who seems to have not quite found his humans!

You see Quinn is still waiting — and he deserves to be seen 🐾

Imagine walking into a room full of people, tail wagging, heart wide open — ready to give everything you have — and being passed over. Again. And again. It kind of sounds like how many of us feel at a 21st 😂😂

Every day he waits patiently, watching others find their forever homes, never understanding why no one has chosen him yet. He doesn’t know he’s being overlooked. He just knows he loves people — deeply, completely, and with every inch of his giant, gentle soul.

According to Michelle, his Quinn is one of the most affectionate, warm-hearted boys you’ll ever meet. He lives for human company, thrives on cuddles, and will be your shadow in the very best way. He’s housetrained, walks beautifully on a lead, and has the kind of gentle nature that just melts your heart.

He has mastered the morning zoomies (an absolute delight to witness), gets along wonderfully with other dogs, and has recently discovered the pure joy of play — so a home with another greyhound or larger dog would make him one very happy boy.

That said, he’s equally content as the sole dog, as long as his humans are around to keep him company. Please Note: Quinn isn’t suited to homes with cats or small animals.

On sunny days you’ll find him stretched out on the grass, soaking up every ray like the sun-worshipping king he is!

Come evening, he’s an indoor boy — cosy, calm and settled. And car rides? Quinn lives for them. Head out the window, ears back, not missing a single thing the world has to offer. Road trip co-pilot? Absolutely sorted 😂

While we’re on the subject of Greyhounds, I thought it was a great opportunity to share why they may be the most underrated Dogs on the Planet!

If you’ve never loved a greyhound, you’re missing something truly special. These magnificent dogs are:

• Gentle giants — calm, quiet and incredibly affectionate; they bond deeply with their humans
• Surprisingly lazy — despite their speed, greyhounds are champion couch surfers who love nothing more than a warm spot to nap
• Low maintenance — their short coats require minimal grooming and they’re naturally clean dogs
• Sensitive souls — they read your emotions with an almost uncanny ability and offer comfort without being asked
• Great in smaller spaces — because they sleep so much, they adapt well to all kinds of homes
• Loyal to their core — once a greyhound chooses you, they choose you completely

They don’t ask for much. A warm bed, a good walk, and someone to lean against. In return, they give you a love so quiet and steady it changes you.

🏥 A small note on Quinn’s health: Quinn has very mild focal epilepsy, well-managed with inexpensive daily medication that he takes without any fuss at all. Since starting treatment, he’s had zero incidents.

It’s a tiny detail in the story of a dog who is otherwise absolutely thriving. It may also be the single thing holding someone back. Imagine that though? How many of us have ailments and where would we be if our friends and families forgot us?

Quinn isn’t just looking for a home. He’s looking for his people — the ones who will finally see him, choose him, and wonder how they ever lived without him.

Could that be you?

Please do your best to share our post and let’s see if we can help this gorgeous boy find his furever family! For all information please make contact with North East Animal Sanctuary and please consider a donation to this very worthwhile cause. Quinn’s link is in the comments 🥰🐾

Time sure does fly! It was only a year ago that a little pup came into my salon and mended my dear friend Yolly’s broken heart!

He visited as part of a litter from North East Animal Sanctuary. I was grooming them in preparation for their furever homes. It was absolute love at first sight!

Yolly had just lost her best friend Henry. To this day she believes little Marz is his reincarnation and I have to agree!

I had the great pleasure of sharing in his 1st Birthday and also seeing the joy he has bought into Yolly’s life this last year, and vice versa!

Here’s what Yolly has to say:

“You make me laugh every single day, and I’m so grateful you found your way into my life. What a wonderful first year we’ve shared together.

I hope all your doggy friends enjoyed celebrating with you! A big thank you to Venus, Zeus, Ellie and Bella for coming along to the party, and a special thank you to Karen for hosting our little birthday get-together.

And just in case anyone is wondering… no dogs were fed chocolate birthday cake — that treat was strictly for the humans! 😂”

Thanks for being an incredible human Yolly. You are not just a friend but true family in every sense of the word. You and Marz bring huge joy to all our lives! Happy 1st Birthday Marz, we love you to the moon and back 🐾❤️

Hello Everyone, I just wanted to share some important information regarding a common infection in Dogs. This condition is more common than many pet owners realise.

Knowledge is power and if you know what to keep an eye out for, you can avoid worsening the condition.

What I mainly see in my travels is yeast overgrowth in dogs. Many owners don’t realise that the symptoms they’re seeing can be linked to an imbalance in the gut.

Here are some of the most common signs that I notice with Dogs:

— Constant licking or chewing of paws
— Itchy, irritated skin
— Recurring ear infections
— Redness between the toes
— A strong cheesy, musty smell

In my experience, yeast problems start in the gut and eventually show up through the skin, paws and ears. The itching can become relentless, leaving dogs uncomfortable and constantly trying to find relief.

What many people don’t realise is that simply treating the symptoms doesn’t address the underlying cause. Supporting gut health is the key. I have found that quality probiotics can play an important role in helping restore balance from the inside out.

It’s important to understand that this is not an overnight fix. Gut health takes time to improve and it can take up to four weeks before you start seeing noticeable changes. Consistency is essential.

I also find that many dogs need to remain on probiotics long term to maintain healthy gut balance, as yeast issues can return when that support is stopped.

If your dog is constantly licking their paws, scratching, battling ear problems or has that unmistakable ye**ty smell, it may be worth taking a closer look at their gut health 🐾

Say hello to Felicia and Tessa, 2 of the prettiest prancing poodles I’ve ever had the pleasure to meet! So glamorous are these beauties that I felt inspired to dust off my Beret for the photo shoot 🤣🤣

These gorgeous girls belong to the lovely Leslie, one of my most loyal and dearest clients!

Leslie is a truly fabulous, extremely ethical poodle breeder whose stunning pups are sought after right across Australia and overseas — and I am SO proud to say that her dogs have been coming to me for years!

Not only do her beautiful adult poodles visit me regularly, but her precious puppies get their very first groom here before heading off to their lucky new forever homes.

What makes Leslie extra special is that her breeding dogs don't just live in her home — they stay there even after they retire. They are cherished, loved family members for life.

That's the mark of a truly ethical breeder, and I feel honoured to be part of her poodle family!

Speaking of Poodles, here’s a few fun facts that you really need to know!

🐩 Poodles are often referred to as Einsteins of the dog world — they are the 2nd most intelligent dog breed on the planet, right behind Border Collies!

🐩 Poodles are born to swim — they were originally bred as water retrievers in Germany. Their iconic clips weren't just fashion — they were designed to protect joints in cold water while allowing freedom of movement!

🐩 Poodles are Allergy-friendly — they have a low-shedding, curly coat making them one of the most hypoallergenic breeds around.

🐩 Poodles were Circus stars — They were once the most popular circus dogs in Europe thanks to their incredible ability to learn tricks quickly!

🐩 Poodles come in multiple sizes, — Standard, Miniature, and Toy!

🐩 Poodles are Royal favourites — They were the favourite breed of French royalty, which is why France claims them as their national dog!

As you can see, there’s plenty to love about this amazing breed! Before I sign off I’d just like to take this chance to say a huge thank you to Leslie for trusting me with her babies, year after year.

Thanks also for the love and support, it truly means the world to me! See you all again soon ❤️

Did you know that your Dog is actually an Omnivore? Now this surprises so many people! Most of us assume dogs are carnivores like cats but they are omnivores — which means their bodies are designed to digest and thrive on both meat AND plant based foods.

What goes into your furbabies body is very important so I thought I’d share some helpful information. Be sure to read right to the end where I have included a recipe for the ultimate one ingredient snack that they will love!

As dog owners we all want the very best for our four legged family members and one of the most loving things we can do is make sure they are eating well.

This is why a balanced diet matters so much more than just loading their bowl with protein alone. A happy healthy dog needs a lovely mix of quality animal protein — digestible carbohydrates like rice, oats and sweet potato for sustained energy, vegetables and fruit for all those essential vitamins, minerals and fibre, and healthy fats like fish oil and flaxseed for a glossy coat and a sharp mind.

When buying commercial dog food always look for a named meat as the very first ingredient on the label — not meat meal, not cereals, not derivatives. The simpler and cleaner that ingredients list the better lovely!

Here’s a list of foods that are completely safe and good for your dog:

🥕 Carrots — A brilliant low calorie snack and great for their teeth too. Most dogs absolutely love them!

🫐 Blueberries — Tiny little powerhouses packed with antioxidants. Pop a few in as a treat and watch those tails wag

🍎 Apple slices — A lovely sweet treat but always remove the seeds and core first as the seeds contain natural cyanide compounds

🥦 Broccoli — A fantastic source of vitamins in small amounts. Just don't go overboard with it!

🍠 Sweet potato — Cooked and plain, this is an absolute superstar for digestion and dogs go crazy for the natural sweetness!

🥔 Potato - cooked only, be sure that you do not feed this raw to your dog.

🥬 Spinach — Small amounts only but a lovely iron boost when given occasionally to your dog.

🌽 Plain corn — Absolutely fine but always off the cob. The cob itself is a serious choking hazard and can cause dangerous blockages so please be careful with that one!

🍉 Watermelon — Remove the seeds and rind and this makes the most wonderful hydrating summer treat.

🥭 Mango — Remove the pit and this tropical treat is packed with vitamins A, B6 and C. A real favourite!

🥒 Cucumber — Wonderfully hydrating and so low in calories, perfect for dogs watching their waistline!

🥚 Plain cooked eggs — Brilliant protein source and so easy on little tummies!

🐟 Plain cooked salmon — Outstanding for skin and coat health. You will genuinely notice the difference in their fur!

🍗 Plain cooked chicken — A lean protein hero and most dogs absolutely adore it!

🍚 Plain cooked rice — Gentle and soothing on an upset stomach, a real go to in many homes!

🌾 Plain oatmeal — Cooked and completely unseasoned, this is especially lovely for older dogs.

Foods that are dangerous or toxic — please never feed these to your dog:

Now this is the really important bit so please do save this and share it with every dog owner you know. Some of these might really surprise you!

Grapes and Raisins — Even the tiniest amount can cause sudden kidney failure in dogs. There is absolutely no known safe dose so please keep these well away from your pup at all times.

Xylitol — This one catches so many people out! It is an artificial sweetener found in sugar free gum, some peanut butters and many baked goods. It causes catastrophic drops in blood sugar and can lead to liver failure. Always check your peanut butter label before sharing!

Chocolate — We all know this one but it is worth repeating! Chocolate contains theobromine which dogs simply cannot process. Dark chocolate and baking chocolate are particularly dangerous!

Onions and Garlic — In absolutely any form, raw, cooked or powdered. These destroy red blood cells and cause anaemia. Be mindful of gravies and sauces too as these often contain onion.

Macadamia Nuts — These cause weakness, vomiting, tremors and fever even in very small amounts. Best kept well out of reach.

Avocado — Contains a compound called persin which causes vomiting and digestive upset in dogs.

Cherries — The flesh is okay in small amounts but the pits, leaves and stems contain cyanide so it is honestly just safer to avoid them altogether.

Caffeine — Coffee, tea and energy drinks are a definite no. Caffeine seriously affects their heart and nervous system.

Lemons and Limes — The compounds in citrus fruit cause real digestive upset so best left out of the bowl entirely.

Blue cheese and mouldy foods — These contain a compound called roquefortine which can cause severe reactions in dogs.

Alcohol — Even a tiny amount causes serious harm to their liver and brain. Please be mindful at parties and gatherings!

Cooked bones — This one surprises people but cooked bones splinter very easily and can cause internal punctures or dangerous blockages. Always opt for specially made raw bones from your butcher if you want to give bones at all.

Nutmeg — Often hiding in baked goods and seasonal treats, nutmeg can cause seizures and tremors so do check those ingredient labels.

Raw yeast dough — This is a dangerous one as it actually expands inside the stomach and produces alcohol as it rises. Keep it well away from curious noses!

A few more things worth knowing:

Raw meat diets are a topic people feel very strongly about! If you choose to feed raw please research thoroughly and handle everything with strict hygiene at all times.

Grain free commercial diets have been linked in some studies to heart issues in certain breeds — always have a chat with your vet before making any big dietary switches.

Fresh water should always always always be freely available. Dehydration affects everything from digestion to coat condition to organ health and we just don't want that for our babies!

Introduce any new food gradually — tummies need time to adjust and nobody wants an upset pup!

If your dog eats anything from the danger list please contact your vet immediately — never wait for symptoms to appear. Better safe than sorry every single time!

Now for the easiest healthy dog treat you will ever make!

It’s only one ingredient and zero fuss and the best part? — Absolutely no nasties. Just pure wholesome goodness!

Sweet Potato Chews Recipe

Simply slice a sweet potato into thin strips, lay them on a lined baking tray and pop them in the oven at 250F / 120C for around 3 hours until they are lovely and chewy and dried right out. That is honestly it!

These Chews are grain free, just one ingredient, no preservatives, naturally sweet and you know exactly what is going into your precious pup.

Store in an airtight container and they will keep beautifully for up to a week.

As with any new treat do introduce gradually and have a quick chat with your vet if your dog has any specific dietary needs or allergies.

I hope you have found this information to be valuable and I look forward to catching up with you and your furbaby soon. For all appointments please message my page 🥰

Are you looking for a furever friend? Imagine waking up on a Sunday morning to the sound of little paws pattering across the floor. You roll over and there he is — that scrappy, bright-eyed little face staring up at you like you are the greatest thing he has ever seen. And just like that, your day is already better than it was five seconds ago.

My good friend had an unexpected litter and these two beautiful boys are looking for their forever homes. Their Mum is a Kelpie cross and their Dad is a Chihuahua, so they won't take up too much space — but I promise you, they will fill your home with more joy than you thought possible.

Picture lazy afternoons with a warm little body curled up beside you. Walks where he discovers the world one sniff at a time. The way he will learn your routines, your moods, your voice. The way he will wait by the door for you every single day like you hung the moon.

That is what taking one of these boys home means. It means gaining a best friend who will love you unconditionally, without question, without reservation — every single day for the rest of his life.

If you think you might be ready for that kind of love, reach out and I will connect you with their owner.

One or both boys are available and they deserve the best homes possible. Please text or phone me on 0432 625 996

Thanks so much
Karen xoxo

Say hello to Buddy and his favourite human in the world Elly! This cute little boy has just completed his 3rd groom with me and honestly, I could not be more proud of him.

He bounces in here like life is one giant adventure, tail going a million miles an hour and that joy is absolutely contagious!

What makes Buddy so special isn't just those gorgeous dark curls or that irresistible face — it's his temperament.

He approaches everything with curiosity and enthusiasm rather than fear, and let me tell you, that makes all the difference on the grooming table.

But here's something I want every pet parent to know — that kind of confidence doesn't just happen.

It's built, slowly and gently, one visit at a time. When puppies first come to me, a perfect haircut is actually the last thing on my mind. What I'm really focused on is trust.

Teaching them that this is a safe place, that the sounds and sensations are nothing to worry about, and that the strange human with the scissors is actually on their side.

Every single visit we go a little further, build a little more confidence, and celebrate every small win along the way.

By the time a pup like Buddy hits their stride, grooming becomes just another normal, happy part of their life — and that is everything to me!

Here's something else people don't always realise though — this is very much a team effort! The work Elly does at home between visits plays a huge role in Buddy's progress.

Simply touching his paws daily, handling his ears, running a brush through those beautiful curls a few times a week, and making all of it fun with treats and praise — those small moments add up to something really significant.

They keep Buddy comfortable with being handled, prevent matting, and mean our time together on groom day is relaxed and enjoyable for everyone — especially him!

And speaking of those curls — poodle coats are absolutely stunning but they do ask for a real commitment. That gorgeous texture mats quickly close to the skin, if left too long, which can cause real discomfort underneath where you can't even see it.

Eyes, ears and paws all need regular attention too. Getting Buddy into a consistent grooming routine now means Elly is giving him the absolute best start — and setting him up for a lifetime of stress-free, healthy grooms. That is such a gift to a dog.

So here's to you Buddy, you excitable, joyful, happy little soul — keep bringing that energy to the salon, it absolutely makes my day!

And to Elly, you should be so proud. The love and dedication you're showing in these early months will pay off for years and years to come. See you both next time and thanks for dropping in 🥰🐾

Say hello to Bagheera and his ever loving and very devoted mum Julie.
This gorgeous little poodle has come such a long way since he first walked through my door a couple of years ago.

Bagheera was one very nervous boy, and earning his trust took patience, consistency, and — most importantly — the right treat!

Julie knows her boy better than anyone, so she always brings his one and only favourite because nothing else will do.

It took quite a few sessions before he’d even take one from me, but now he gobbles them up and showers me with kisses — best part of my job!! 💕

A little something about treats & rewards. Bagheera’s journey got me thinking about how powerful the right treat can be — so here are a few things worth keeping in mind:

The right treat matters. Every dog is different. Some are food-obsessed, others are picky like Bagheera. Find out what motivates your dog — it’s worth the trial and error.

Size really does count! Reward treats should be tiny — think pea-sized. You want to reinforce behaviour, not fill them up. Treats should make up no more than 10% of their daily food intake.

Most importantly, watch their waistline. Run your hands along your dog’s ribcage — you should feel each rib easily but not see them. A thick layer of padding is a sign to cut back on food and treats.

Now here’s the scoop — Check their p**p! Yes, really! A healthy dog produces firm, well-formed stools — and here’s a good rule of thumb: the p**p should never be log-sized.

If your small or medium dog is producing what looks like it belongs to a Labrador, that’s a sure sign they’re being overfed. The same principle likely applies to us humans 😂😂

Large, frequent, or soft stools can also mean the food isn’t agreeing with them. It’s the easiest daily health check there is — and one most people overlook!

I remember watching an episode of Dog Whisperer where Cesar Millan made a really interesting point — he sees treats as affection rather than leadership.

He said it’s a tool to build trust, but not something that needs to last forever. Once your dog has learned a skill, you can gradually phase treats out and replace them with play, praise, or something similar that is not food based.

This is exactly what happened with Bagheera. The treat opened the door — but trust and consistency are what built our friendship. Now he comes to me happily, treat or no treat.

I’m so proud of this little guy, and of Julie for always understanding exactly what he needed. Thanks for dropping in guys, I look forward to seeing you next time 🥰

Say hello to Garry, Peggy and the absolutely gorgeous Miss Millie!
Some stories just make your heart sing, and this is one of them.

Garry and Peggy first walked through my door some years ago with their beloved poodle — a cherished member of their family who held a very special place in their hearts. We shared so many wonderful grooming visits together, and watching that little soul be so deeply loved was truly a privilege.

Then came the day no pet owner ever wants to face. If you’ve loved and lost a fur baby, you know that grief is real — and it is profound.

But here’s what I know to be true, and what Garry and Peggy beautifully showed us — the greatest tribute you can pay to a beloved pet is to open your heart again.

This isn’t just something I’m saying, science backs me up! Hugs and cuddles, and kisses and the warmth of a little body curled against yours — these things are not just comforting, they are genuinely healing.

Physical affection from our pets measurably calms the nervous system, lowers cortisol, steadies the heartbeat and helps mend what grief has broken.

And here’s the kicker! When we are in grief for too long — while completely understandable — it can have serious long-term consequences for our own health and wellbeing. Our fur babies, it seems, heal us just as much as we nurture them.

Enter Miss Millie. This little bundle of joy came into Garry and Peggy’s lives as a tiny 12-week-old pup, and she has never looked back! She’s been coming to me since she was a bub and is now she’s a thriving, bright-eyed, happy-go-lucky 12-month-old — and honestly, the love in this little trio is palpable!

Poodles are extraordinary dogs — and it’s no accident that families fall so hard for them. They are renowned for their exceptional intelligence (consistently ranked among the smartest breeds in the world), their hypoallergenic coats, their gentle and deeply empathetic natures, and their almost uncanny ability to read the emotions of the humans they love. They don’t just live with you — they tune into you.

They know when you’re sad. They know when you need them close. And they give themselves to you completely and without reservation.

It’s no wonder that when one poodle leaves a family, another poodle finds its way back in! They carry the legacy forward.

Millie didn’t replace what came before her — she continued the story. She brought new laughter, new cuddles, new morning chaos and new reasons to smile. And watching Peggy hold her with such tenderness, and Garry standing proudly beside them both — well, this is exactly why I love what I do.

To Garry and Peggy — thank you for trusting me with your precious girl, and for reminding us all that loving again is not a betrayal of those we’ve lost. It is, in fact, the most beautiful way to honour them. 🌈🐾

For those of you that might find yourself in a similar situation, I say don’t ever be afraid to open your heart again. It knows exactly what to do and please reach out to our friends at North East Animal Sanctuary for a furever friend.

Thanks for dropping in guys, I love your visits and very much look forward to our next catch up ❤️🐾

Say hello to Miss Molly and her very proud and doting Dad, James! This family always put a smile on my dial!

Some of you will remember Molly from a previous visit with Grandad Scotty — well now you get to meet the other half of her little fan club —Dad James 🐾

James and his parents share the same home, so when he heads to work, Molly simply pads down the hallway to spend the day with her grandparents. No lonely hours, no waiting by the door — just more laps to sit on.

This is so good for her in many ways that go beyond just being cute…
Dogs that have company throughout the day — whether that’s through extended family, a dog-friendly workplace, or doggy daycare — genuinely thrive.

Less anxiety, fewer destructive behaviours, better sleep patterns and often improved socialisation are all the upsides. Dogs are pack animals at heart, and regular human or canine companionship during the day makes a real difference to their overall wellbeing and even their long-term health.

If your own situation means your dog spends long stretches alone, it’s really worth exploring doggy daycare or a trusted dog sitter — even a couple of days a week can have a lovely impact.

Another great option could be striking an arrangement with a neighbour who might be able to offer assistance or one that may no longer have a dog and would love the company. This is a great alternative to leaving your dog home barking and distressing the neighbourhood and other dogs.

Miss Molly is living proof that a happy dog isn’t just about walks and good food — it’s about feeling loved and never having to wonder where her people are.

And with James, Scotty and the whole family around her, she has the perfect environment that will ensure a happy life. Thanks for dropping in James and Molly, it’s a visit I always enjoy! See you both next time 🥰🐾
