🐾 Today is World Pet Memorial Day 🐾

A day to remember and celebrate the pets who forever changed our lives and will never be forgotten.🥰🥹

Over the years, we've had the privilege of caring for many wonderful pets. While they may not have been our own, so many have left lasting pawprints on our hearts.💙

We'd love to honour and remember them with you today. Share a photo, memory, or simply their name in the comments below. ❤️🌈

✨ Welcome back, Kate! ✨
A familiar (and happy!) face to many of our clients, Kate was part of our team for many years before taking some time away to raise her young family.
We’re very happy to have her back nursing with us on Mondays. She’s jumped straight back in, and it feels like she never left. ❤️
Welcome back Kate, we’ve missed you! 🐾🥰

Prue Adams interviews our own Doc Enoch, who shares his journey from a tiny Colorado town of just 12 people to how he ended up in Esperance. Along the way, he talks about his passion for cattle, saying yes to opportunities, taking chances, and helping producers improve profitability. 🐮

The podcast covers cattle health, Enoch's pioneering work in BVDV control, the changing role of veterinarians in agriculture, and his mission to bridge the gap between producers and the wider community through his "Enoch the Cow Vet" platform.

Packed with practical insights, a few laughs, and plenty of cowboy wisdom, it's a great listen for anyone interested in agriculture, veterinary medicine, or just a good story.💙

Hot tip: if you're a 1.5x podcast listener, Enoch is a fast and witty talker - normal speed is recommended!🤣

☠️☢️ Toxic Substances on Farms ☢️☠️

Chemical compounds are used to deter pests from your crops, however they can be toxic to pets as well. Recently we have seen an increase number of a variety of toxic substance ingestion and we caution owners to be vigilant and informed when it comes to toxic chemical compounds particularly on farms

These may include pesticides or rodenticides that are pure blocks of bait, sprayed, spread or added to grain and pets particular dogs will ingest them or walk through sprayed areas and lick their feet.

Note that some toxins may show immediate signs and some such as anti-coagulant rat bait can take around 5 days to show life threatening symptoms. Early decontamination 🤮💦 is best!

These may include chemical such as
Fipronil 🪰🫨
Metaldehyde 🐌🫨
Methiocarb🐌🫨
Iron EDTA 🐌☠️
Zinc Phosphide 🐀 ☣️
Brodifacoum 🩸🐀
Bromadiolone 🩸🐀
Warfarin 🩸🐀
Bromethalin 🫨🐀
Cholecalciferol 🫘💔🐀
1080 🫨☠️🐶
Among others

A timely reminder to keep pets away from recently acquired or applied chemicals. 🤓Know what the toxic substances are on your property as treatment and prognosis vary, and the sooner we know what your better got into, the better we can direct treatment. 👍🏻

We thank all the pet owners who have promptly brought pets in at the first sign of distress including calling ahead so we can get the team ready for your arrival.📞🏁

Wait… my pet needs what before surgery?! 👀🐾

One thing that often surprises pet parents is the importance of pre-anaesthetic prep!🐈🦮

For cats and dogs, fasting before anaesthesia is an important safety step, but did you know this isn’t the same for every animal? 🐰
For example, for rabbits, it can actually be dangerous to fast because their digestive systems work very differently!😱

Another helpful tip: after surgeries involving sutures or staples, pets often can’t get wet for 2–3 weeks while healing. So a bath before their procedure can make recovery a little fresher and more comfortable 🛁✨💙
