Had a crack at my first Darning Mushroom today made with FOG Eucalyptus.

Cut up half a block of the Pretty Gum into blanks.
The second photo they are wet down with a little water showing how they would look finished.

Following on from yesterday

I was also given some Leopard Wood while out at Cobar.

Decided a natural edge bowl to show off the bark. This bowl is a little thicker than normal but I wanted to try and keep some of the bark pattern.

Second bowl is the other half of the log, went pretty thin with this one as I’m hoping for maximum warping for character.

Last weekend I was camping on private property just out of Cobar with a youth organisation. I was very fortunate when the property owners offered me some timber and even assisted me with cutting more. There was offer of even more but I was running short of room.
I did consider fillling the trailer and leaving the youths bags behind but thought the parents may not like that.

This afternoon I got to turn two of the timbers 😊

1st one is Pretty Gum, a gum I hadn’t heard of let alone worked and it’s stunning. Looking forward to getting some pen blanks out of the other blocks.

2nd one is Mulga, now I’ve turned a Mulga pen & this stuff is hard, this was a long dead tree and it splits fairly commonly.

A quick little project with pine scraps.

My Scout Group was given this bowling pin by our Bowling Alley one time when we were there bowling. Its been kicking around the hall for a while so I thought I’d make a quick base & turn it into a perpetual trophy.
