The National Zoo & Aquarium is privately owned, and is Australia's only combined Zoo and Aquarium - that's 2 attractions in one! We are situated on around 18 hectares of land just five minutes from the centre of Canberra. With a wide variety of

both native and exotic animals, as well as the largest inland saltwater tank in Australia, there is something for everyone. Wander in and have a casual stroll around the park, or make a day of it with family, friends and make use of our picnic areas and complimentary BBQ facilities. We are best known for our amazing "up close and personal" animal encounters, which provide visitors with an opportunity to get up close and personal with some of the worlds most amazing creatures!

Today we celebrate the Ocean’s vital role in regulating the climate 🌦️, supporting extraordinary biodiversity 🪸 and a space that is a wealth of scientific and medical potential 🧬

We are so proud to be the home of one of Australia’s largest inland aquarium, home to our beloved zebra sharks, black tip reef sharks and a menagerie of other aquatic species 🦈

Our Aquarium is a special place and a fantastic example where Education, Science Communication and Zoo Keeping come together 🤗

We are OPEN this Public Holiday, so we hope to see YOU at the ZOO ☀️

That’s one way of calling Dibs! 🤭

Asian Small-Clawed Otters are found in the family ‘Mustelidae’, a family consisting of wolverines, stoats, weasels and ferrets. This unique family group often communicate chemically via ‘scent marking’

You’ll often see our otters rubbing their bodies on items in their habitat, especially when they Zoo Keepers have added something new ⭐️

Curious to some, we think it’s Otterly adorable 🥹
