🐾 Important Changes Coming to Tiny Vet Clinic – From 1 July 2026 🐾

At ACT Pet Crisis Support & Tiny Vet Clinic, our mission has always been to support pets and their people when they need it most πŸ’™
As demand continues to grow and resources remain limited, we are making some important changes to ensure we can continue helping those who need us most.

🚨 What’s changing?

From 1 July 2026:

❌ We will no longer provide services for pets that are not desexed, unless:
β€’ Your pet is too young to be desexed
β€’ There is a valid medical reason to delay or avoid desexing

❌ We will no longer offer microchipping for new puppies and kittens
πŸ‘‰ This should be completed by the seller or breeder before your new pet comes home

If your pet is not yet desexed, you will need to:
βœ… Provide proof of a desexing booking, or
βœ… Provide documentation from a vet explaining why desexing is not suitable at this time

πŸ’™ Why are we making these changes?

At Tiny Vet Clinic, we are committed to:

βœ”οΈ Reducing backyard breeding
βœ”οΈ Using our limited funds to help pets most in need

🐢🐱 Why desexing matters

Desexing your pet helps to:
πŸ’Š Prevent certain cancers and serious health issues
😌 Reduce roaming, fighting, and unwanted behaviours
🐾 Reduce unwanted litters and animal suffering

🚫 Tackling Backyard Breeding

One of our key goals is to stop unintentionally supporting backyard breeding.

Responsible breeders ensure that puppies and kittens are:
🐾 Microchipped
🩺 Vet checked
πŸͺ± Wormed
πŸ’‰ Given at least their first vaccination before going to a new home

βš–οΈ Know the law

In both the ACT and NSW:
πŸ“Œ It is illegal to sell or give away a dog or cat that is not microchipped
πŸ“Œ Microchipping must be done before sale (or by 12 weeks of age in NSW)
πŸ“Œ Registration is mandatory and must be kept up to date

β˜”πŸΎ Rain, rain during our clinic on the 17th June … but nothing stops our amazing Tiny Vet Clinic team! πŸ’™

Despite a very wet Wednesday morning, our dedicated volunteers were out early setting up gazebos to keep everyone as dry and comfortable as possible.
A huge thank you to Dr Arul, Nurse Amy and trainee Nurse Lemuria, who cared for our larger patients outside, while Dr Eloise and Nurse Mish looked after the smaller patients indoors. 🩺🐢🐱

It was wonderful to welcome back the lovely Verlie, whose warm smile and enthusiasm brightened the day, while volunteer Viv helped distribute food and coats to those doing it tough. ❀️

🐰 We also had a couple of adorable bunny patients visit for vaccinations. Their owners had been told they had two little girls… but surprise! One turned out to be a boy! 😲 Thankfully, plans are already underway for desexing to prevent any unexpected baby bunnies. πŸ‡πŸ’•

Managing allergies was another big focus this week. We're so pleased to see pet owners planning ahead and investing in ongoing treatments that keep their furry family members comfortable and itch-free. Prevention really is better than cure, and these happy pets are proof that a long-term health plan makes all the difference. πŸ•βœ¨

πŸ’™ A gentle reminder to everyone with appointments: if you can no longer attend, please let us know. Sadly, we had several no-shows again this week, while other pets in need had to be turned away.
Our vets, nurses and volunteers generously donate their time, and a quick email to cancel helps us ensure every available appointment can be used to help another pet. πŸ™
