**Update! His owner has been found!**

Are you my owner?? 🐶 🐾

This Mini Dachshund was handed in to a Vets on Saturday (8/8/26) after being found on Wewak Street in Trinity Beach. He came to us as his microchip is still registered to the breeder and we don't have a way of getting in touch with his owners!

This little boy is a very sweet sausage, confident but quiet and loves a good snuggle as you can see!

His impound number is 1312666.

If this is your pet, please get in touch with the Cairns Regional Council Customer Service Team on 1300 69 22 47 as soon as possible so we can arrange to get him home.

Please note, Council does not adopt pets directly from the Animal Care and Education Centre.

Our goat Barry has gone to a better place... No, not like that 😅!

Barry has found a lovely new home up at Hectic Valley Farm and is loving life with his new friends! Thank you to the lovely family there for helping him out and giving him a great opportunity 😍

Meet Boy. Some of you may have seen the post of Boy on social media a few weeks ago and been shocked by his appearance. Boy did not have the best luck in his life before he met a kind member of the public who called our Animal Management Team.

This first picture is Boy when the member of public found him, the rest are from this week! 😍

On arrival to the ACE facility, we had Boy checked over by our resident Vet who discovered that he had some of the worst skin we had seen in a long time with open wounds where it had cracked, eyes that were so sore and filled with pus that he was almost blind and ear infections so severe that he could barely walk due to shaking his head almost constantly. We named him Boy so that we could call him 'Good Boy' as much as we wanted and he would know it was him. 🥰

After weeks of constant care, love and medication from the team at ACE, Boy is about ready to find his new home. He will be a work in progress as he still needs some care for his slightly sore skin but as you can see from the before and after pictures, he has come a very long way!

Boy is slowly but surely coming out of his shell now that he is feeling better and can see and walk straight again! He is proving himself to be a bit of a goof and would like nothing better than to be your one and only, he's definitely an attention seeker.

We will be working closely with the rescue groups of Cairns to make sure that this lovely Boy goes to the best home and just wanted to share with you the progress that he has made thanks to the hard work of the team here. 🐾❤️

Our Dog Adoption Day is coming up fast!! 22nd August at Aeroglen off leash dog park, dozens of good boys and girls will be waiting for their new people. If you have ever thought about getting a dog, this is your sign!

We are bringing together many of the Cairns rescue groups so that all dogs will be in one place so it'll be a great opportunity to meet and greet all the available dogs of Cairns!

If you own a dog, now is the time to act!

Registering your dog helps Council to quickly reunite pets with families and supports responsible dog ownership in Cairns.

Registration is due by the end of July and registration notices should be with all dog owners by now. If you have not received one, check your spam as they sometimes end up in there.

It's important to keep your registration details up to date. This makes sure that you are paying the right rego fee, and that if your pet is lost, we can quickly return it to you.

If you have left the Cairns Regional Council area or your pup has passed away, let us know.

Make sure your dog is registered or the registration is renewed by 31st July 2026.

Owners who don't register their dogs can receive a fine of $345, don't let that be you just because you forgot! This is your reminder to put it in your phone calendar now and pay it asap!

All dogs in Cairns must be registered from the age of 12 weeks or within 14 days of moving to the region. Registration is renewed each year on 31 July, and we will send you a renewal notice in June.

It's school holidays!

Whether you're staying home or heading off on a break, please make sure your pet's microchip details are up to date and you have a name tag with a phone number on your furry friend's collar.

That way, if they do go on their own 'holiday', wherever you may be, they can be returned to you quickly.

If you're off on holidays and leaving your cat or dog at home, it's advisable to have a friend, neighbour, family member or professional pet sitter pop by two or three times a day (or more often) to check up on your furry friend.

Some people hope that leaving extra food and water our will tide their pet over until they get home. But most pets will gobble up whatever's put in front of them, and could knock over their water bowl, leaving them hungry and thirsty for days.

Pets that are used to a lot of attention, or suddenly find themselves living full time outside, are also likely to act out of character, barking incessantly or escaping from the yard.

So before you pack your bags, please have a plan for your pet!
