The new format for Novice sheep herding classes will continue in July. So far, I’ve had positive feedback with the change.

💥 Bookings now available for the second half of June 💥

Due to the huge demand for my herding services and to accommodate more clients, I have decided to change what services I offer from mid June.

💥Services I now offer:
✔️ Private sheep and cattle herding lessons
✔️ Beginner sheep and cattle herding classes
✔️ Intermediate and Novice sheep herding classes
✔️ Stock and yard hire for experienced handlers
✔️ Livestock and stock dog education

All other services are no longer available.

From mid June, Novice sheep classes will now be 3 participants for 1 hour instead of 6 participants for 2 hours. I have changed this to reduce waiting times to use training yards and to streamline training.

Please note that bookings are limited as I will be closed for a short break during May. I will be closed from the 4th to 20th.

In addition, I have now added the new Intermediate Class for May! This class is a mini basics of herding workshop to streamline the transition from Beginner sheep herding class to Novice classes. You will only be required to attend this class once before Novice class but you can attend it again if you feel you need the refresher. For clients currently doing Novice class, you can attend this class as a one off refresher before returning to Novice class if you feel you need to brush up on the basics.

Intermediate Class bridges the gap between Beginner Classes (initial instinct testing) and Novice classes (building more advanced skills) where you will learn the basics of sheep herding and begin handling your dog. This class is suitable for dogs and handlers that have completed Beginner Herding Class, private herding lessons or have completed instinct testing at another facility and want to build your skills before attending Novice Class. This class allows you to have the framework to then advance you and your dog’s skills further in Novice class more easily. This class is suitable for dogs of any age including pups of any age that have had at least two vaccinations.

➡️Learn what the goal is when working our dogs on stock and how to read the stock and dog

💥New herding service coming soon💥

In the next round of bookings, I will be introducing an additional herding class to streamline the transition for clients from Beginner sheep herding class to Novice classes. You will only be required to attend this class once before Novice class but you can attend it again if you feel you need the refresher.

❗️IMPORTANT HOUSE RULES ❗️

Just a reminder of some house rules when attending training at Akheron Working Dogs.

➡️You MUST have your dog on lead when entering and exiting the property and training areas.
➡️You MUST pick up after your dog and take your dog poo bags and rubbish with you when you leave.
➡️You MUST keep your dog quiet. I understand some dogs can get excited but we must respect everyone around us on the property and neighbouring properties
➡️Do NOT let your dog approach another dog on lead or chained up.

In addition, PLEASE remember that this business is run at my place of residence. There have been several people that have allowed or purposely let their dogs run right up to my private backyard with my dogs there or stick their hands through the fence to pat my dogs. DO NOT do this! I have signs to give plenty of notice but they are sometimes ignored.

It is greatly appreciated that these rules are followed to ensure a safe and respectful environment for everyone.

💥 April bookings now available as well as the first weekend in May 💥

I have some updates for Novice sheep herding classes! In April, I will be opening up our larger training yard with obstacles (that is used for some private herding lessons) for Novice sheep herding classes. Please note however, the use of this yard will depend on handler and dog skill level. Given the popularity of these classes and the extra training yard being used, I have increased Novice class numbers from six to eight handlers/dogs. There is no change in price. In addition, I have added two Friday morning Novice sheep herding classes.

❗️Please note there is a small price increase for private sheep and cattle lessons, and full day trains from April 2026. Prices remain for all other services.

I’ve been receiving a lot of enquires about not being able to book with me from existing and new clients. I thought I’d inform clients that I am completely booked out for all services for the remainder of February and March.

The only availability I have left is a few spots for existing clients for Beginner cattle herding class and Novice sheep herding class and then one spot for socialisation session in late March. (💥Edit - social sessions are now fully booked 💥)

I have a cancellation list for my private herding and beginner sheep herding class. Message me if you’d like to be out on the list if not already.
