PLEASE READ RE FUTURE BOOKINGS!

Hi everyone ☺️ As of today, we are currently booked out until the 23rd of November.

I have had to do some thinking and make a big decision, as the available appointments for my current clients keep stretching further and further out. You may have seen on the booking portal already, but I am officially announcing it here;

As of 29/10/26 The Kind Canine's books are closed. That means we are currently unable to service new clients. We might open for new clients in 2027.

I have already had multiple people try and book online despite this being written on the website before you begin the booking process. I am very aware of how frustrating it must feel to have a booking request denied, however I am one person running a very small salon, dedicated to anxious dogs (and humans) and remedial grooming. I cannot take everyone on, and i need to do this before it gets any warmer. I need to protect the limited spaces I have for the dogs in genuine need that are already clients. I am already doing more dogs per day than I planned when opening, and I will not risk an injury by working myself into the ground.

If you have a dog that you believe genuinely needs my services, feel free to reach out at [email protected]. I cannot guarantee i can fit you in, but I'm happy to have a conversation.

At this point in time, due to the way I run (fear free, one on one, friends and family dogs in salon at the same time only), I am not able to expand or hire a new groomer/assistant.

Current clients: PLEASE book in advance. Sundays are basically booked for the rest of the year, November is almost full and I have 11 spots left in December (no weekends). Please message me if you would like to begin a rolling booking (x day every x number of weeks) for next year.

There is waiting list on the online booking system. I don't have the capacity to keep notes on everyone who messages me for a waiting list, so i need you to add yourself online!

This is Hugo. Hugo is 11 years old and has struggled with grooming during his lovely life. He came to me with reported anxiety and the possibility of fear aggressive behaviour. He looks unimpressed in his photo but he's actually a really sweet boy.

Mum stayed for his first groom, he was pretty overdue and had to be clipped short, but he tolerated most of the groom like a champ. Today was his second visit and he stayed without Mum.

He was SOOOO good you guys 😭💜 nary a growl or whale eye to be seen. He was not positive about having his front feet touched but was a-ok about everything else. I am so proud of you, Hugo! Thank you for all the cuddles! I'm so pleased we managed to tidy your face and get the knots out of your ears today 🥰

Hi everyone!

We are getting very close to having to close our books to new clients. If you'd told me this back in April when The Kind Canine opened, I would have laughed you out of the building!

My first and ever-highest priority is making sure the dogs in my care aren't rushed or stressed. From day one, that has meant we have had limited capacity, and I will not compromise on that. I am a one woman show, and can only do so much. At this point, I am not looking for employees as that will mean we will have multiple unrelated dogs in the salon at the same time. That has never been how we operate, and I don't plan on changing that 🥰

We already have some fully booked out days in December and will be closed from the 25th Dec - 2nd Jan for some well needed rest and bonding time with family and my own doggies. In the next few days I'll post our remaining availability for the year.

Next year our opening hours will be changing (not in a way that should affect any of you, more so for my own sanity lol), so I'll have those changes up soon too.

Let's talk about grooming loops (featuring model of the day, Wallace the Pugapoo 😍)

Lately I've seen some discourse online about grooming loops (or their unflattering alternate name, "nooses") and questioning about their uses.

Grooming loops are part of a professional groomer's toolkit, even those who are Fear Free. The number one reason is for safety - every new dog who walks through the salon door is an unknown and a potential flight risk 😂 I will loop every dog that walks in the door to begin with (unless they have a trachea injury!!!), especially in the bath, until I know them well enough to know they won't attempt to jump (fly). Wally here is only wearing one for the photo, as he and his brother Ferguson know me pretty well and have excellent table and bath manners. In an ideal world, all my clients would be on the same page, but it isn't always the case!

You can see the incredible awkward double loop I have going - there's an extender that the loop is attached to, which gives the pup the ability to lay down or flip out on a towel when wet, which i am constantly adjusting for comfort during the groom! I have about 3 of these fabric loops, and some silicone ones in the bath, they are washed regularly and sprayed down with disinfectant between dogs during the day.

I do own a sling and some loops that go around the stomach, but I haven't bothered unpacking them since I reopened. Some groomers love them, I personally don't use them as I'd rather put different things on cue for the dogs in my care (everyone learns "paw", "chin", "stand up" etc over time), and will cradle a difficult dog for nails, or ask Greyden to hold/cuddle/feed/pat them while I'm working on a spicy area (bless him).

As you can see in the photo, the loop is loose enough that it's hanging off him, and he would have the ability to move around if he wasn't distracted by the treat in my hand! I stand about a step away from the table when taking photos, the table is electric and always close enough to the ground that the pup can't walk backwards and fall without solid ground nearby. I also normally take photos on the floor for safety reasons.

Our new booking system is now live!!!

The new system makes it much easier to manage individual dog profiles (add your pooch as a family member under "pet" with Name as first name and Breed as last name), multi-dog households, waitlists, grooming add-ons (nail buffing is now available!) and more.

⚠️ Online bookings are now submitted as booking requests and will be confirmed when approved - regulars can message me if not sure, or book directly via text.

⚠️ New clients will receive an intake form to complete before i will confirm the appointment - this MUST be done within 24 hours of your request. Your appointment is not confirmed or held until your form has been received.

⚠️ If you are a current client and rebook with the new system, you may also receive the client intake form, this is now a one and done scenario, and you can fill it out one final time if you like!

A little note about availability -

The Kind Canine is intentionally a small capacity one-on-one salon. I only groom a limited number of dogs each day so that appointments aren't rushed and each dog gets the time and attention they need.

As ths salon has grown, this means that same week appointments won't always be available moving forward, and reschedules are getting trickier. I strongly recommend booking your next appointment before you leave or booking ahead online as i can no longer guarantee availability. We are consistently booking out two weeks ahead, September is almost full and we have days in October that are already booked out.

If your preferred appointment isn't available, you can join the wait list via the booking tool and I will contact you if something comes up - if you choose to do this, I urge you to also book the first available appointment or you may miss out conpletely.

A little booking update!

The Kind Canine will soon be moving to a brand new booking system! 🥰

As the salon has grown, I’ve outgrown our current system, so I’m making the switch to something that works much better for the salon and should make booking easier for you too. You can now book multiple dogs at the same time!!!!

Along with a much nicer booking experience, I’ll be introducing loyalty rewards, service packages, clearer add-ons and easier appointment management.

I’m also taking this opportunity to update a few things:

🐶 Remedial Grooming is changing. Dogs who require significant extra time or behavioural support will have a dedicated service focused on working at their pace, building confidence and progressing towards regular grooming where possible.

🐶 My Terms & Conditions and salon policies are being updated.

🐶 Dogs will be moved into their correct size and service categories, so some existing clients may notice a change in their usual service or price.

🐶 Extra time needed for matting, excess coat or additional handling will also be clearer when booking.

Existing clients don’t need to do anything yet! I’ll be transferring client details and upcoming appointments before the new system goes live. You may receive an email during the changeover, don’t panic, it’s just me!

I’ll let everyone know when the new booking link is ready. Until then, please keep booking as normal.

Happy Wednesday everyone! I'm introducing a new range of doggie colognes in the salon - Magictails and PurePets is a small Queensland based business that makes beautiful shampoos, conditioners and grooming sprays with natural ingredients. We have the entire range, including Frangipani (she's missing as she's currently being used as a room spray lol), Vanilla Spin, Moroccan (fave), Candy Cane, Baby Fresh, Strawberry Bomb, Pina Colada and Coconut Ice. They all smell absolutely divine and I'm excited to hear your feedback!

As always, please let me know if you'd prefer a fragrance free groom. These scents are lovely and subtle, which is a must for sensitive little me 😅
