“Your shipping fee is ridiculous!”
This is something we get comments about quite often, and in most cases they’re not very kind, so I wanted to be transparent about it 💙
Firstly, let me be very clear, we do not make money from shipping. With most orders, we actually absorb part of the freight cost ourselves.
One of the biggest factors is simply the size of our seats. Australia Post unfortunately won’t take parcels this large, so we have to use courier companies instead.
The second thing is that we are a small-batch Australian-Made business. As far as I’m aware, we’re the only Australian-Made dog car seat brand in Australia, which means our freight rates are very different to imported brands that mass produce and ship in large volumes. We simply don’t receive the same discounted freight rates they do.
For 14 years, when Helen owned the business, customers were charged the exact freight amount quoted by the courier company, and orders were handled directly through enquiries rather than online checkout. Since taking over, I’ve implemented a full online shopping experience, which meant introducing flat-rate shipping for each state and size to make purchasing online much easier.
The challenge with this is that freight costs can vary massively even within the same state. For example, we recently shipped a medium seat to the Sunshine Coast. Whilst I have implemented a flat shipping rate of $40 for this size within QLD, the actual freight charge from the courier was $180, and that was the cheapest quote from 8 different courier companies.
This means that in many cases, especially for WA, SA, TAS and NT, we absorb a significant part of the shipping cost ourselves.
Unfortunately, with rising fuel surcharges and courier increases, I can’t continue absorbing those differences at the same level anymore. From this week forward, shipping to WA, SA, TAS and NT will increase to better reflect the actual courier costs involved.
I’ve genuinely tried my best to keep shipping as affordable as possible, spending countless hours researching, contacting and negotiating with freight companies. Many repeat customers have noticed that our shipping rates have actually decreased since moving to the online model, and have really appreciated this.
I’m always happy to chat about shipping costs or double-check rates for your area where possible 😊
Thank you for supporting a small Australian Made business, it truly means a lot.
