This handsome boy Shaun suffered an iliopsoas tear at the beach last night. It’s a somewhat uncommon injury, that we only tend to see in greyhounds & other exceptionally athletic working dogs. It causes sudden exquisite pain in the groin and lower back. After getting fully checked out to rule out any other concurrent issues, Shawn has had a healthy dose of pain relief, so you can see he’s a bit zonked. He will be on bed rest by doctors orders for quite some time before being allowed to catch a case of the zoomies again.

Oodles of danger noodles! Baby browns are hatching at the moment so vet clinics are seeing lots of bites across northern Australia (you may have seen posts from more than one clinic this week!). Please be aware they are about, and if you see or suspect your cat or dog may have been bitten, get them prompt medical attention. Earlier antivenine is far more effective, and leads to much higher survival rates, so be prompt with your actions!

Poor Ted copped a stick in the chest last week while he was working. Luckily it bounced off his ribcage and didn’t travel deeper!

Everybody loves a before/after piccy. Young scruffy got his pearly whites attended to this week, and luckily after probing didn’t need to lose any! Routine maintenance by doing a dental prophy when indicated is the best way to keep your dogs teeth happy & healthy into their old age. (Especially important in little dogs like Scruffy!)

First Easter chocolate toxicity already crossed off the list for 2026. Please remember that chocolate is toxic to both cats and dogs, and the smaller your pet, or the darker the chocolate, the more poisonous it is. If your pooch gets into your choccy supply please give the squad a call to make them vomit it back up before it’s ill effects take hold!

How did all of that, come out of such a small puppy 😱. This tiny darling came in bloated up like a balloon after she managed to knock over a rubbish bin, and gorge herself. To avoid a tummy upset, or any further complications she got a quick needle to get her to bring it all up, and a second needle to make her feel a bit better, and off home, where hopefully she won’t be able to knock over rubbish bins in the future! Garbage eating is a common cause of things like gastroenteritis, pancreatitis, and in rare cases eating such a huge meal can cause Gastric Dilation Volvulus, so if in doubt, better to pop them out for a check over.

Big man Jax came in to cuddle the nurses, and spend some time getting treats on a visit today. He is coming in with dad from time to time, just to say hello, to get him used to coming to the Vet without having to get any nasty needles at the same time.

This little darling was taken on by local wildlife carers, and suffered a non-displaced fracture in its leg. This is one of the few fractures that responds well to external co-aption, so will be wearing a big splint and on pain relief for a month or so with lots of nursing care for its recovery.
