A kind voice gets you further than a firm voice. ๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘๐Ÿ‘

Your voice is one of the most powerful tools you have in dog training.

And one of the best ways to use it is simple:
Praise your dog like you mean it.

Dogs are incredibly good at reading human emotion. They notice your tone of voice, your facial expressions, your energy, your enthusiasm, and how you make them feel.

That means joyful praise can become incredibly powerful reinforcement.

Smile.
Add some warmth.
Add some excitement.
Let your dog know when theyโ€™re getting it right.

Because honestly, a lot of people praise their dogs like theyโ€™re reading a grocery list.
โ€œGood dog.โ€
๐Ÿ˜

Same words. Completely different meaning.

And remember:
most dogs are actually good most of the time.

But many owners accidentally ignore good behavior and only pay attention when the dog is doing something wrong.

Thatโ€™s no fun for the dog โ€” and itโ€™s a huge missed training opportunity.

Donโ€™t take good behavior for granted.

Catch your dog doing things right.

Praise often.

Praise sincerely.

Make training enjoyable.

Thatโ€™s a huge part of what Ianโ€™s new course is all about.

And right now, you can save 50% on your first year of Top Dog Academy membership, where Ian's new course will be included when it launches this week.

Court finds accomodation provider guilty of breaches of assistance dog law.

The Bundaberg Magistrates Court this week confirmed that refusing lawful access to people with assistance animals has consequences.

A Queensland accommodation provider was criminally convicted under the Guide, Hearing and Assistance Dogs Act 2009 (Qld) for unlawfully refusing access to a person with a guide dog and attempting to impose additional charges.

The court imposed financial penalties, reinforcing that these protections are not optional - they are enforceable under law.

The outcome highlights several critical points:

๐Ÿฆฎ People with guide, hearing, and assistance dogs have a legal right to access accommodation and services

๐Ÿฉ Refusing access or imposing extra conditions (such as cleaning fees) is unlawful in many circumstances

๐Ÿ•โ€๐Ÿฆบ Legal accountability applies when businesses fail to comply with their obligations

While the penalties imposed in this case were relatively modest, the conviction itself is significant. It confirms that breaches of assistance animal access rights can and may be prosecuted.

This is not just about one incident. It is about ensuring equal access, dignity, and inclusion for people with disability - everywhere, every time.

Access is a right.
Where assistance animals meet legal requirements, that access is protected by law.

For businesses:
Awareness matters. Compliance matters. Rights matter.

Thankyou Janice and Keegan for standing up on behalf of all of us.

(This case was prosecuted under QLD Guide Hearing and Assistance Dog Act. Different provisions may apply in different states and territories, and for other handlers)
