Snake Myth Monday 🐍

“If you have blue tongues around your house, you won’t get snakes.”
Unfortunately… the snakes didn’t get that memo 😅

Blue tongue lizards don’t scare snakes away — in fact, large snakes like tiger snakes may actually see them as a snack.

Nature can be brutal sometimes!

Blue tongues are awesome little backyard legends and great for keeping bugs and snails down, but they’re definitely not a snake repellent.

As always:

✔️ Respect wildlife
✔️ Leave snakes alone
✔️ Call a professional if needed

🐍SNAKE FACT FRIDAY!!🐍

Tigersnake venom is incredibly potent and can affect the nervous system, muscles and blood clotting. A bite can become life threatening very quickly without urgent medical treatment.

This is why I can’t stress enough — please leave snakes alone and don’t copy what I do.

What you see online comes from years of training, experience, permits and proper equipment. Even then, there is always risk involved.

Most snake bites happen when people try to catch, kill or move them themselves.

Stay back, keep pets and kids away, and call a licensed snake catcher. Respect wildlife and stay safe 🐍

Happy Mother’s Day to all the amazing mums out there today — especially my partner Katie. ❤️

Thank you for putting up with a house full of boys constantly bringing you bugs, frogs, lizards, worms and anything else they can catch. Even with muddy boots, pockets full of “treasures” and chaos everywhere, you still somehow handle it all with love and patience.

I love watching the boys pick flowers for you every chance they get. It’s the little moments like that that show just how much they adore their mum.

And a little Mother’s Day snake fact from Jake The Snake Catcher…
Tiger Snake mums are very different to us humans. One of the questions I get asked the most when finding baby tiger snakes is: “Where’s mum?”

The answer is — she’s usually long gone. Tiger snakes give birth to live young, but once the babies are born, they are completely on their own from day one. No babysitting, no teaching them how to hunt, and no protective snake mum hanging around nearby.

Hope all the mums out there have an amazing day today. ❤️

🐍 SNAKE FACT FRIDAY 🐍

Not all Tiger Snakes have stripes!

A lot of people think Tiger Snakes always have bold yellow and black bands — but that’s actually a myth. Some can be almost completely black, olive, brown, or even patternless depending on their age and where they live.

Their colour can vary a lot across Victoria and coastal areas, which is why identifying snakes by colour alone can be dangerous.

No matter the pattern, Tiger Snakes are highly venomous and should always be given space and treated with respect.

Have you ever seen a Tiger Snake without stripes? 👀🐍
