Deargban Border Collies

We compete in showing, obedience, agility, tracking, luring and frisbee. Once you have a Border Collie, you don't look back!

The Border Collie is a breed of dog that I have always been interested in - in fact it is the only breed I have ever wanted to own. I chose the red and white (ee) Border Collie as I personally feel they are a great looking dog, with all the great qualities of the Border Collie as well as being extremely handsome. In 2005, I was lucky enough to contact Lani Mercer of Jessomine Border Collies and my very special red and white lady, Ember, came into my life and changed it for ever.

Apparently this is the correct way to wear your toy. And apparently the camera needed a VERY close inspection afterwards. 👀😂

Life with Border Collies - never boring, rarely dignified and always entertaining. ❤️🐾

Anyone else have one that will do anything to get you to play? 😂

Thanks for Mark for sending through this gorgeous video of Zac!

It’s taken awhile but we are finally here! Sienna gained her Advanced Scentwork title yesterday at the Poodle Club of Queensland Trial under judge Kellie Gunnis and shadow judge Jason Attridge.

Her nemesis has been Containers as she treats it like an article game and false alerts. We’ve been working on finding the source and I think we are getting there.

On the weekend, we had the DQ Scent Work State Titles 27-30 Aug 2026 and I am just so proud that Sienna came first and just flew through her Advanced Vehicles Search with Hander Emily Kay.

But I’m also proud of Snooka who did some amazing work for her qualie with handler Melanie Summer and Sean who was sore, but the photos proved that he did identify the hides just not in speed and not convincingly enough for me (so I let him down).

Thanks to Penny Parker for the great photos!

A lovely weekend at the DQ Scent Work State Titles 27-30 Aug 2026. The Deargban Border Collies team had a great time! Thank you to the amazing organisers, volunteers, judges, competitors but especially the wonderful team!

Back in early July Kylie took the dark one aka “Snooka” off to the Rosewood Show to give her some experience. Under judge Mrs Dianne Jovanovic (QLD) Snooka got Runner Up Best of Breed (RUBOB) and Challenge. So first points in her first show even though she was very naughty.

Then she went along to the Border Collie Club of Queensland Specialty Show and in the Open Show under judge Mrs Amanda Maynard (QLD) and the Championship Show under judge Ms Sandra Brennan (NSW), Snooka came 2nd in the Intermediate Class with some strong competition, which I’m very proud of. She’s slowly getting the hang of what to do in the show ring - it’s a bit different from tracking and Scentwork.

Thank you to Kylie for handling her beautifully and also to Jenna-May McCann who handled her in the best headed property class. Also big thanks to Kylie for doing some training with her between the shows.

Thanks to Bruna Beddow of B&M Photography for the amazing photos (talented woman)

Judges critique:

2nd – DEARGBAN WAR AND PEACE SWN TSD. (20 months)
A feminine black and white bitch who appealed for her lovely head qualities and soft,
intelligent expression. She possesses good skull proportions, a distinct stop and well-
carried ears, while her good length of neck and quality front assembly contribute to an
attractive overall picture. Slightly longer cast than the winner, she nevertheless presents a
balanced, athletic outline and showed herself well throughout.
She moved freely and confidently, maintaining a pleasing profile with good reach and an
easy, athletic gait. While I found the winner more balanced overall and a little cleaner
behind, this quality bitch possessed many virtues and was never out of contention.

Recently Sienna competed in the Yuggera Canine Club Sprint Dog trial. She only needed 2 points for her Novice title and I’m pleased to say she scored 32 points! With a time of Avg: 11.08 for the 100m (recall since we didn’t use the lure) Speed: 32.49 kph.

The Agility National Championship took place in Brisbane last week and I’m very proud of what Junior handler Lexie and her sweet boy Connery achieved.

Lexie and Connery have only been competing for the last 6 months but came 2nd in his Novice Jumping class on Friday and made it to the Finals today. Only 15 teams made the finals.

They ran beautifully and I’m very proud of what they are achieving!

So excited for junior handler Lexie and her boy Connery.

On Saturday night they competed at the Double Agility & Double Jumpers FR Trial at Durack.

They came first in the Novice Jumpers 400 with a Qualie. And although no other Qualies, for the night, they were in max top 5 in each round. So their times are amazing and when Connery has it, the team is going to soar!

Well done Lexie!
