Supplements needed... 🙏

Can you assist us in purchasing these products from The Vet Shed - Online Pet Store please?

They are bought 'over the counter' and can be very useful when caring for cats that would benefit from them (under the supervision of a vet, of course).

✨ Synbiotic 180-s is a great probiotic, prebiotic and digestive enzyme supplement.

✨ Troy Vitamin B12 is a great way to increase this vital vitamin when it's lacking due to illness or stress.

Ideally we need 3 of each, for...

* Our fosters here at AFF.
* Cathie's fosters at TLC Kitty Rescue.
* Community foster carers around the Merredin area.

Supplements Fundraiser - $330
(Includes postage to 3 different areas of the Wheatbelt).

Tornado update... ❤️‍🩹

Yesterday this teeny little lad's health took a dip into diarrhoea territory.

Not what we want to see in any kitten.
Especially a 3 month old who only weighs around a kilo 😬

Torny comes from a colony in Merredin with some small strays 🤏
Who have some big gastrointestinal issues.

We jumped on our intervention protocol asap last evening, as there's no time to lose when a kitten doesn't want to eat 🚩

Initially Tornado was reluctant to be syringe fed and also told us he wasn't a fan of subcutaneous fluids, thank you very much! 😾
He's got big opinions crammed into his small body lol.
His very strong and squirmy body!

But by this morning he was easier to feed (Royal Canin Recovery mousse) and now he's been eagerly eating from the syringe.
With only a small amount of diarrhoea overnight.

That's the sort of progress I like to see 👍

We'll be keeping a close eye on the lad over the weekend and gathering information to take to his vet appointment.

Please share and donate if you can, so we can purchase more high quality, easy to digest kitten food 🙏
Torny is going to require a specialised diet for his sensitive system.
And a lot of nutrients to help him grow and stay healthy.

And back again... 🤪

Colin needed a nap today just to keep going.

He'll be home soon from dropping off the SAVA cats in Northam.
No doubt tired and hungry.

Gumpy too 😋

Thank you Gypsy Stockley for doing the Forrestdale pick up 🙌

More wheels makes for less miles, so if anyone wants to join the Transport Team, please get in touch!!

Up and at it again... 🥱

Last night Colin picked up today's Forestdale vet cats while dropping off the Tafe vet cats.

Then he helped out with foster feeds and all the usual jobs here before we finally got some zzzz's.
This morning he was up before dawn again to 'pack the cats' and get on the road.

Gumpy joined the gang today and I'm SO excited that he's finally getting neutered 🤩
Gumps has had more than his fair share of health challenges and now at around 6 months old, he's (hopefully) well enough for surgery.

Please keep him in your thoughts and prayers today 🙏
He has chronic sinusitis (watery eyes and random sneezes) from the severe cat flu issues he endured when younger (even with veterinary care and many treatment courses).

But gosh has he got gumption!
Super active, eats up a storm and lives life
'full speed ahead' 😆

Today's transport k's are sitting at 218.
Making it a $65 fuel day (so far) ⛽

We still need to meet the pick up voly this evening to take the cats the rest of the way to Northam.

This is why fuel funding is so vital!
Without wheels, rescue stops.
Literally dead in the water 😬

If you can help keep our tank full, please become a Food & Fuel Sponsor! 🙌

Wednesday cat-ubering... 🐈💨💨

From Northam to near Midland, where Lindelle Winter met Colin to take some of the SAVA - Saving Avon Valley Animals fosters to Forrestdale Veterinary Hospital

Then Colin took 3 of the cats to their appointments at Student Vet Clinic at South Metropolitan TAFE

Huge hand claps for our amazing vets! 🙌

Colin then dropped off the Poowee Australia lavender litter donation in Maddington for Cathie Bell from TLC Kitty Rescue to pick up when she's in Perth next.

Thanks to PetRescue for supporting the Wheatbelt strays!

Can I tag anyone else in this post? 😆

Colin's on his way back up the hill soon with the Tafe cats.
A 300km, $90, round trip by the time he gets home from dropping the cats back to Northam 😳

Gavin's wound has been checked and tended to 👌
It's possibly from a dog bite 😬 and the abscess left a huge hole in his leg when it suddenly burst last week.

If you want to support Gavin as he heals, please contact SAVA and send some love 💞 He's truly a stoic, brave lad who deserves a medal!

This beautiful young boy isn't feeling well and I need to help his mum get him to the vet and it's need help with funds please.
We've given him probiotics and medicine for his tummy but he's still very lethargic and very sad.
His mum is on a pension but donates to my rescue every fortnight to help me with my rescue kitty's, so now she needs help for her boy.

Please if you can spare a few dollars, we can all help get him to the vet tomorrow and help him get the care he needs.

Moo Moo needs a home... 🏡

Can he come live with you please?

Originally a stray from Kondinin, Moo has blossomed into a shy, gentle man who head boops and leans into scritches 🤗

He was skinny and shut down when he first came into care.
Desperate for food, he'd been breaking into houses to grab a bite wherever he could 😥

Moo Moo's details...

* Located near Northam WA
(transport assistance may be an option).

* Friendly, shy and gaining confidence.

* Possibly around 3 to 5 years old (maybe older).

* Neutered (sterilised).

* Snaptested positive to FIV.

* Microchipped.

* Not vaccinated (adopter's choice and responsibility).

* Flea / worm treated.

* Currently presenting in good health.

* On a balanced homemade and commercial wet food diet.

* Tolerates some cats in his space as long as there's no competition for food.

* Untested with dogs (atm).

* Adoption fee is $50
(or a Donation In Kind / WHY / Trade).

Please get in touch if Moo Moo would suit you 💬

We need to find homes for fosters so we can help more strays!

Sweet Pea's farewell... 🕊️

Sharing sad news isn't easy but when caring for funky strays, it's a necessary part of the story 🥺
And we have to be brave for their sake.

Comprehensive x-rays at the vet yesterday showed that Sweet Pea was born with significant abnormalities of the spine.

It was a relief to learn that she hadn't experienced a traumatic injury that caused her condition, I must say.
But it also meant that there were no options for treatment.

She's an extremely rare case and a red flag that indicates the level of inbreeding in Wheatbelt colonies 🚩

In the short amount of time between
Sweet Pea's first vet first and yesterday's vet visit, her spine had continued to deteriorate.

And the reason for that is growth.
The growing that all kittens do naturally.

But for Sweet Pea, growing meant that the dip in her spine was becoming more pronounced.
More 'dipped' and less able to flex and straighten.

Less able to support her and more able to cause her harm ⚠️

This would soon become a very serious problem, because her spinal cord inside the spine would be compressed.
Causing extreme pain and no quality of life.

The bones in the spine need to protect the spinal cord, not damage it ⚡

There isn't a feasible fix for this type of condition unfortunately.
So after hours of careful examination and detailed discussions with very experienced vets, the decision was made to allow her a peaceful exit.

Surrounded by all the love (and creamy treat) a kitten could ever want, Sweet Pea quietly fell asleep.
Her last thought was the wonderful taste of food (her love language for sure!)

I can't express the gratitude I have for the staff at Heartlands Veterinary Hospitals York ✨
What an outstanding team of experts! 👌

And for our supporters who have covered the costs of everything Sweet Pea needed in the short time she was in our care 🙏

Another forever kitten with a short life of long love 💞

Let's learn from Sweetie's story and step up to manage stray populations in Wheatbelt towns far better.

Everyone can do something 🤝
Everyone is the rescue!

Poo Weeeeeeeeee 💩

A clumping clay car load in fact 😍

Huge thanks to PetRescue for this donation!
Litter... It's an essential item, needed every day for every cat 🙌 and the lavender is a bonus! 💜

Amazing support from Poowee Australia! 🙌

We also picked up the Poo Wee donations for SAVA - Saving Avon Valley Animals in Northam and TLC Kitty Rescue in Narrogin.

Transport can be a real slog, so collaborating for cats makes everything go further!

Please thank and follow Pet Rescue and
Poo Wee 🙏
They're helping cats, communities and wildlife by supporting stray rescue in the Wheatbelt!
