We were in the middle of our ride yesterday when the mailman beeped from the front gate-seeing a good training opportunity I trotted Zak down to collect the package then did a home stockman’s challenge through the obstacles 🤣
What a handy boy!
Thanks Queensland Off The Track for the new saddle pad, can’t wait to put it to use! 🐎🐎

Our second current QOTT horse is Smoking Zak 💨
Zak is a very sweet and very handsome 11yr old approx 15.3hh Standardbred gelding and is the last of our three New Year’s Day arrivals left to rehome. If you’re in this guy’s paddock he’s there with his head over your shoulder checking out what you’re up to or demanding some love. While he retired sound he doesn’t have the prettiest legs with some wear and tear present. He is very brave with obstacles but I do believe thrives off the confidence of his rider and may not be so brave with someone nervous. I feel he’d be best suited to a trail/pleasure rider or even therapy home.

With a few herd changes in the past couple of weeks it’s time for some QOTT horse update posts! Our first post is for newest arrival “Yep Got Chooks” 🐔 This handsome dude is a favourite of mine that I’ve worked with during his racing career, he’s had a nice long spell in the paddock and is ready to start his ridden career following his dental and routine health checks. Chook is 8yrs old and stands at around 16hh (yet to measure). Super excited for the glow up on this guy as he comes back to work 💪 🌟

Helen’s Dream, affectionately now known as “Hellie” absolutely smashing it with her new family. Three big trail rides under her belt with her new mum Keira already, what a great little team these two are making!

Bittersweet rainy morning here as we farewell our very last Thoroughbred Helen’s Dream ❤️
Due to the large amount of Standies needing homes OTT and a comparatively small number of QOTT Standardbred retrainers we are going to be focussing solely on them going forward.
We are sure Helen will be very loved with her new family and a very competent and confident teen rider who rides her beautifully and is happy to put in the steady miles with her new OTT . We wish them all the best on their journey together ❤️

The last two years have not only seen a lot of lovely horses pass through our gates but also a lot of big transformations on our property.

With assistance from the Queensland Off The Track Acknowledged Retrainer Expansion Grant we have been able to increase our carrying capacity with over 1km of internal fencing replacements, as well as install an arena to improve the quality of our retraining and the safety and comfort of clients when test riding our horses!

Thank you Queensland Off The Track for partially funding our projects and helping dreams and goals become reality! 🤩

Helen’s Dream 🐎 (rehomed)
Lovely flashy type with loads of potential.

It’s time for us to accept that full time work and trying to keep so many horses in work just isn’t possible. We are needing to find a very competent home to continue on with Helen’s Dream so we can focus on the Standies and she can get the consistency she needs and deserves ❤️
Please read full add thoroughly.

Helen is a 5yr old, just on 16hh OTT Thoroughbred mare. Last raced 19/08/24, retired sound with no injuries.
Since arriving she has had an 8 week spell to let down, precautionary treatment for ulcers, dental, 2in 1 and regular worming, currently in front shoes only.

Helen is a VERY sweet mare to deal with and loves a good pat, groom and cuddle. Absolutely NO nasties, “mare ears” etc. She is a bit bleached but is usually just about black.
Helen has had a couple of small spooks and shies in her time here but recovers well and doesn’t heat up afterwards.
Easy to catch, shoe, float, worm, wash etc.
Helen has been trail ridden, done flatwork in the arena and popped over some poles while with us, she is quite a petite framed girl and I believe she would excel at dressage or showing/hacking with further education and time to develop strength and topline in her back.

Helen is still adjusting to being tied up (is used to cross ties) and has leaned back on her lead a couple of times-hasn’t broken any equipment but something to note if not using cross ties.
Helen is very trainable, she is working into the bridle in walk and trot but her canter needs work and is quite down hill and uncomfortable at the moment lacking strength. Helen needs a patient, experienced owner willing to continue slowly building her up and strengthening her back. She has had spinal X-rays to rule out any physical limitations and is totally free of any kissing spinous processes, but will benefit from regular body work as she continues to develop. Unfortunately I’m just too big a rider at this stage in her career to continue her retraining.

NB: This is an OTT Thoroughbred requiring twice daily feeding and regular work while she continues to gain weight and topline, therefore knowledgeable/experienced/confident homes need only apply for her. Absolutely NO beginners or nervous riders. Helen is a part of the QOTT Acknowledged Retrainer program and comes with 10 subsidised lessons and a New OTT Owner Welcome Pack! Reference check will be required.
