Tableland Dog Obedience Club Inc.

Training is on every Tuesday and Wednesday night, The cost is $60 registration per year plus $15 per class. More details on the page.

Tableland Dog Obedience Club was founded in June 1990 and has been going strong ever since. we are situated on the Atherton Tablelands, west of Cairns and we train every Wednesday evening throughout the year. The cost is $50.00 per year plus $10.00 training fees per night. Beginners/Class 1 6pm-6.30pm
Class 2, Class 3 and Intermediate 6.45pm - 7.15pm
Advanced 7.30pm - 8pm. Dogs must be 3 months and be fully vaccinated to attend. The new intake is the first Wednesday of every month.

It’s time to talk about our August trial last weekend! What a fantastic weekend was had, starting off with a visit from Shane Knuth and continuing with everyone having so much success.

From first quals to titles our members and handlers from other clubs had an incredibly successful weekend.

Of course a massive thank you to all of our judges and stewards who worked so hard all weekend, whether you helped change courses, pick up bars or jumped in to help scribe and steward, we are incredibly grateful for all the help.

Onto our next one in September, and hopefully it will be just as successful for our members and fellow club members.

🐶 Our next intake for class one is Wednesday the 2nd of September🐶

🐾 Class 1 (Beginner Obedience) begins 6pm Wednesday (Arrive early to fill in membership forms) -
Some topics covered in this class include:
- Intro to marker training
- Loose lead walking
- Place training
- Positions (Sit, down)
- Intro to heelwork
- How to properly socialise

Class 1 please leave your dogs at home for the first week as we will be going through some important housekeeping and an intro to dog training that you won’t need your dog for. Your furry friend can join us in the second week for some hands on training!

🐶 Our next puppy class intake is Tuesday the 1st of September 🐶

🐾 Puppy Classes - Tuesdays 6pm
- This class is suitable for puppies 6 months and under who have had their second round of vaccinations.
Some topics covered in this class include:
- Proper socialisation
- Leash walking
- Toilet Training
- Body language
- Impulse control

🐾 A great start to our trial weekend!

We were delighted to welcome our local Member, Shane Knuth MP, to the first night of our trial yesterday.

Shane joined our members for dinner before staying on to watch the Obedience and Rally competitions — and of course we couldn’t miss the opportunity for a photo with the obedience jump he generously donated to our club!

Joining Shane in the photo are our Obedience Judge, Roel Wittkamp, and Sam Alexander from the Cairns City Kennel Club with her clever dog Mika. Sam and Mika also had a fantastic night in the UD ring, competing at one of the highest levels of obedience and earning an outstanding 199/200! 🌟🐾

Shane works tirelessly for our region, listening to local communities and advocating for the things that matter to the people who live here. We’re incredibly grateful for his ongoing support of our club and the wider Tablelands community.

And the trial isn’t over yet! 🐕🏃‍♀️

Today we have a full day of Agility and Tricks, with plenty of talented dogs and handlers in action.

If you’re wondering what dog sports are all about, come down, have a look and enjoy the action — spectators are very welcome!

👀 Wondering if training is on?

Unless you hear otherwise from us by 5pm on the day on Facebook— YES, WE’RE TRAINING! 🐾

A little rain doesn’t scare us (or the dogs! 🌧️🐕). We train in most weather, so if it’s looking a bit damp:

🥾 Waterproof shoes are your friend
🧥 Bring a raincoat
🐕 Grab the dog
💪 And come train!

If the weather is bad enough that we need to cancel, we’ll post on Facebook by 5pm.

No cancellation post = training is ON! 🐾

The dogs have been patiently waiting… and now we can finally share the news! 🐾

Yesterday we met with Tablelands Regional Council to discuss the future of our club, and we’re delighted to say the meeting was very positive.

Council has committed to working with us to identify and relocate us to an alternative venue. While there’s still plenty to do, we’re excited to begin working together to secure a new home for our club.

Thank you to everyone who has supported us throughout this process. Every message, letter and word of encouragement has meant so much, and we’re looking forward to sharing the journey with you as it unfolds.
