If you’re thinking about getting a Golden Retriever? Here are 5 things you should know first. ⬇️
1️⃣They need more than a quick walk.
Goldens were bred as working dogs and they’re naturally active, playful and intelligent. They need regular exercise, mental stimulation and plenty of interaction with their people.
2️⃣ They shed. A LOT.
That beautiful golden coat comes with a lot of hair. Regular brushing helps keep their coat healthy and your house slightly less furry.
3️⃣ They’re very people-oriented.
Goldens generally love being around their humans and can struggle if they’re left alone for long periods. They’re social dogs who thrive on training, attention and being included in family life.
4️⃣Their size means their joints need some thought.
Golden Retrievers are a large breed and can be predisposed to joint problems such as hip and elbow dysplasia. Keeping them at a healthy weight, providing appropriate exercise and supporting their joints throughout their life are all important parts of looking after their mobility.
5️⃣ Preventative care matters.
Responsible breeding, regular vet checks, a balanced diet and keeping an eye on their weight can all help support their long-term health.
They might be one of the friendliest breeds around, but they’re still a big commitment and understanding their needs before bringing one home is one of the best things you can do for them and for yourself.
