Last week, one of our team members went to a booking confirmed a few weeks ago. I should have seen the red flag as we got no replies to the days leading up to the first visit but the thought of a cat sitting alone by the door felt worse than showing up somewhere we might not be needed.
It turned out the client had already hired someone else. Not a licensed sitter, just someone offering a cheaper rate on the side.
It was only once both sitters messaged the parent at the same time, us saying we were there and the other person saying someone else had shown up too, that we got an immediate reply! Saying we weren't needed anymore and they’re sorry for not saying it sooner. The other person was told something completely different, that we'd never confirmed in the first place and no one knew why we'd shown up.
I'm not sharing this to argue about who said what. I'm sharing it because this isn't the first time someone on my team (and me too!) has had their time or their word treated like it doesn't matter, sometimes in favour of whoever's cheapest that week!
I will always stand by my team.
This isn't something we do on the side for extra cash, it's what we take seriously, every visit, even the inconvenient ones.
All we're asking for is simple: the same respect we give your pets, given back to our time.

P.S. Rumour has it the reply is still "in progress" especially now that we've asked for payment for the visit we didn't need to make 😂
