Relocating a pet is not just about booking a flight. It’s a multi-step process that involves planning, paperwork, health checks, vaccinations, crate training, and often meeting the specific requirements of the destination country. Depending on where you're moving, pet relocation can take anywhere from a few weeks to a few months.

However, if you’re moving to countries with more stringent animal import regulations like Australia or New Zealand, the process can take up to 6 months or longer. This is due to blood tests (such as rabies titer test), multiple rounds of parasite treatments, and specific timing rules for vaccinations and health certificates.

Here's your ultimate Pet Relocation Checklist– what to do before, during, and after the big move to keep tails wagging and whiskers stress-free.

Before the Move
• Start early.
• Make sure your pet's microchip is ISO-compliant.
• Visit your vet for a full health check-up.
• Research import/export rules for your destination country.
• Book a consultation with a pet relocation expert (hello, that’s us!)
• Get your pet used to their travel crate well in advance

During the Journey
• Make sure your pet’s crate is clearly labeled with their name.
• Include a favorite toy or blanket to comfort your pet.
• Give your pet a light meal a few hours before departure.
