A fascinating study from Kyoto University found that female dogs are more likely to judge human competence than males. In the experiment, pups watched two people try to open containers — one was successful, the other... not so much. The girls? They consistently preferred the competent human, especially if food was involved. 😄 The boys? No strong opinion either way.

According to iHeartDogs, this shows that female dogs might be more socially tuned-in — paying closer attention to how helpful or reliable we are. They also tend to hold eye contact longer, pick up on social cues more easily, and are choosier about who they bond with. Born in 2008 and raised to be a service dog, Ricochet had a bit too much energy and curiosity to follow the traditional path. But instead of seeing it as a failure, her humans discovered something incredible—her true gift was even more powerful.

In 2009, she jumped on a surfboard with Patrick Ivison, a teenager with quadriplegia. That moment changed everything. Ricochet didn’t just ride waves—she created waves of healing. As the world’s first “SURFice” dog, she surfed alongside kids with disabilities, veterans with PTSD, and anyone who needed a little extra hope. 💛🐶

She wasn’t just about stunts or surf competitions (though she did those too!)—her magic was in how she felt what people needed. Whether it was comfort, confidence, or just a gentle nudge, Ricochet always knew.

Meet Judy, the brave Pointer who made history as the only official canine POW of World War II. Captured alongside her ship’s crew in 1942, Judy formed a remarkable bond with Aircraftsman Frank Williams in a Japanese prison camp. She wasn’t just a companion—she was a protector, warning prisoners of danger and offering hope in the darkest of times. 🐾

Smuggled between camps in a rice sack, surviving a torpedo strike, and even rescuing drowning sailors—Judy’s story reads like a legend, and yet every part is true. Her incredible reunion with Frank at another camp remains one of WWII’s most heartwarming moments.

After the war, Judy was awarded the Dickin Medal, often called the animal equivalent of the Victoria Cross. She brought comfort to grieving families and lived out her final years with Frank, who honored her memory with a heartfelt memorial after her passing at 13.
