Society for Prevention of Cruelty to Animals - Mutare Branch SPCA MUTARE BRANCH
We are calling on all our Mutarians that
have ventured out in the world.
(1)
As you all know we have an SPCA in Mutare and of late have been struggling terribly with funds to support all of the animals they have under their care. It does not have to be much. The World Remit forum is convenient in Mutare, and hopefully it would be for you too. Jill.Rickard is our accountant and she would confirm receipt. Email committee member [email protected] for more details. The SP
CA have helped us all in some way and now we need to help them get back on their feet, with your support. I
Please think of us today as we try to keep our old Donkeys. By law they must be auctioned. That's only fair but we are hoping to retire them safely.
We have a tight budget so please pray we have enough.

A 50-year-old Mberengwa man has been jailed for 30 months after his unmuzzled dog bit a young girl who later d¡ed from rab¡es. The NPA confirmed that Nhamo Zhou was convicted of culpable hom¡cide at the Zvishavane Magistrates Court. The child was bitten on 20 October 2025 while playing in her yard and sustained a deep cut above her eye.
Despite efforts by the offender’s wife, the girl began vomiting and frothing on 2 November and was pronounced d£ad on arrival at hospital. A post mortem confirmed acute cardiorespiratory failure and rab¡es inf£ction. Zhou was arr£sted after failing to produce a vacc¡nation card for the dog.
The NPA has urged dog owners to act responsibly and ensure their animals do not endanger children.

The best little dogs that fly...The Bat
Hello, I’m a bat. I don’t drink blood, and I’m not trying to get tangled in your hair.
If I accidentally fly into your home, please don’t strike me with sticks or brooms—it hurts, and I’m already frightened.
I never meant to scare you. If I land, I might not be able to take off again without your help.
Gently use a towel to guide me outside, and I’ll fly away at once. I help by eating mosquitoes and many other insects.
But our roosts are disappearing as forests and old buildings are torn down, leaving us with fewer places to live.
So if one of us enters your house, just switch off the lights inside, turn on a light outside, and open a door.
I’ll find my way out quickly. Please show kindness—I want to live too

We are sickened by cruelty cases.
Just be kind people! Because how you treat your pets is how you will treat your children....... TRUE STORY
If only dogs could drop off bad owners at the shelter, this world would look so different! This heartfelt drawing of a dog with sad eyes captures the longing for a better life. All they want is to be loved, cared for, and treated with kindness. It's a sobering reminder of how much more we need to do to ensure every dog is treated with the respect they deserve.
Dogs have an incredible ability to love unconditionally, but not all dogs are lucky enough to have an owner who returns that love. It’s heartbreaking to think that some animals live in fear or neglect, waiting for someone to recognize their worth. This image speaks volumes about the importance of responsible pet ownership and how we all must do better for these loyal companions.
Every dog deserves a home that offers warmth, safety, and kindness. Sadly, not all dogs find this kind of care, and it’s up to us to be their advocates. Whether it's adopting from a shelter, rescuing from the streets, or simply standing up for better treatment of animals, every small step counts.
Let’s strive to create a world where no dog ever has to wish for a better life, because they already have the best one. Be the hero they’re waiting for, and help ensure that all dogs live the happy, fulfilling lives they deserve. 🐕💔

Were you originally from Mutare? Do you remember amazing characters like Jill Wylie who wrote those equally amazing books “Call Of The Marsh,” Or “Search, Dogs to the rescue”? Or our loved and respected founder member Mr Beau Howell? Or dear Audrey Hagan, as she drove to the city centre every morning to feed the strays who depended on her?
As you all know we still have an SPCA in Mutare and of late have been struggling terribly with funds to support all the animals in our care. While we do everything we can to keep going, we have a monthly stress to work out how to pay the salaries for the 4 amazing men who keep the day to day logistics in hand. We have wonderful dogs and cats to find homes for, and we are doing what we can for the community to be a caring service to their pets. We dip dogs, we visit schools, we have vaccination and animal health programmes to rural areas, we uplift any animals that are maltreated, abandoned or injured, we fundraise, and we move heaven and Earth to re-home. If you are in any way able to give us a helping hand, however small, you would be the one helping us to survive.
The SPCA have helped us all in some way and now we need help to survive and continue providing a caring option!
If you could spare us a thought, please can you let us know and we can arrange to have bank details sent to you.

($95.00) It gives us a huge amount of pleasure when visitors walk around and delight at seeing the old Mutare favourites like McKenzie Family for their parents famous Mitchells Bakery, Manica Fresh Produce, Baxters, or Meikles.
