🐍 Myth vs. Fact – Snakebite First Aid Edition 🐍
🚨 With the antivenom shortage in South Africa, knowing FACTS over myths could save a life!
❌ MYTH: "You should suck out the venom."
✅ FACT: This does NOT work and can make the bite worse.
❌ MYTH: "All snakebites need a tourniquet."
✅ FACT: ONLY use a tourniquet for Black Mamba or Cape Cobra bites (when you are sure of identification, pressure bandage is not available, and you are more than 90 minutes away from a hospital).
❌ MYTH: "If there’s no pain, it’s not serious."
✅ FACT: Some venoms (like Mamba bites) can act fast with little initial pain. Get medical help immediately!
🛑 Always remember:
1️⃣ Keep the victim still & calm.
2️⃣ Call emergency services immediately.
3️⃣ Get them to a hospital – antivenom is LIMITED!
