SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark

SPCA Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark We serve, protect and care for all animals. The Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA is a member of the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA).

The Vanderbijlpark and Vereeniging SPCAs have amalgamated in July 2015 and are fully operational under a single Management Committee. This positive step was taken at Special General Meetings. The Board of the National Council of SPCAs has expressed support for the venture. The decision was taken to maximise the use of resources and opportunities. It will be beneficial to both the SPCAs who previou

sly operated independently: - but above all it is and will be highly advantageous to the animals in the area. The message to the public is that unity is strength and the future will be a positive one in terms of assisting animals. The Society is now called the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA.

🐾 Meet Mischief! 🐱💙

Mischief (G2) is an adorable 5–6-month-old boy with a beautiful personality, a cuddly nature… and a very important job: making sure you never walk anywhere without him! 😂🐾

This little guy loves affection and happily soaks up cuddles, but he also has plenty to say. Mischief is a vocal little character who isn't afraid to let you know when he wants your attention.

His funniest habit? Playing with your feet while you're trying to walk! Apparently, ankles are toys and every trip across the room is an opportunity for a game. 😹

At just a few months old, Mischief is full of personality, affection and playful kitten energy. He's looking for a family who will enjoy his antics just as much as his cuddles.

If you want a quiet, invisible roommate… keep scrolling. If you want a cuddly little shadow who talks back and attacks your feet, Mischief is waiting! 🏡❤️

If you're unable to adopt right now, you can still make a difference by sponsoring Mischief's stay while he waits for his forever home.

🐾 Meet Tulips! ❤️

Tulips (S8) is a beautiful adult girl with a wonderfully soft nature and a heart that's just waiting for someone special to discover it. 🐶🌷

She's a little shy when you first meet her, so Tulips needs someone who understands that the best relationships sometimes take a little time. Give her patience, kindness, and the chance to trust you, and you'll begin to see her beautiful personality shine through.
Behind that shyness is a gentle girl who wants something incredibly simple: to love and be loved. ❤️

Tulips would thrive with a patient family willing to let her settle in at her own pace. Watching her learn that she's safe, loved, and finally home will make every little step worth it.

A big thank you to Nicolette's Dog Parlour for pampering Tulips and helping our beautiful girl look her very best while she waits for her forever family. ✨💙

Could you be the person who helps Tulips blossom? 🌷🏡

If you're unable to adopt right now, you can still make a difference by sponsoring Tulips' stay while she waits for her forever home.

🌸 𝗦𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗼 𝗞𝗶𝗻𝗱𝗻𝗲𝘀𝘀 🌸

Spring is a season of new beginnings. Flowers bloom, the days grow warmer, and nature comes back to life. It's also the perfect time to make a fresh start for animals in need.

At the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA, every day brings new animals through our gates. Some have been abandoned, others rescued from cruelty or neglect, and many are simply waiting for someone to give them a second chance.

As we welcome the new season, we're asking our community to help us Spring into Kindness.

🌼 𝗛𝗼𝘄 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝗵𝗲𝗹𝗽

A donation of any size helps us provide:

❤️ Veterinary treatment through our private veterinary partners.

But our work doesn't stop when the month ends.

Every new day brings more animals that need food, shelter, medical care, warmth and a second chance. Their needs continue long after the calendar changes.

Sterilisation: The Kindest Gift You Can Give Your Pet

When people think about caring for their pets, they often think of food, toys and a warm place to sleep. While these are all important, one of the greatest gifts you can give your pet is sterilisation.

Sterilising your pet not only benefits their health and wellbeing, but it also helps prevent the thousands of unwanted puppies and kittens that end up in animal shelters every year.

❤️ Why sterilise your pet?

Sterilisation helps to:

🐾 Prevent unwanted litters.
🏡 Reduce the number of homeless animals.
❤️ Lower the risk of certain cancers and other reproductive diseases.
🐶 Reduce roaming in search of a mate, helping to prevent accidents and injuries.
🐱 Reduce fighting and certain unwanted behaviours.
👨‍👩‍👧 Allow your pet to live a healthier, happier life.

Many people believe they can easily find homes for a litter of puppies or kittens. Unfortunately, this is rarely the reality.

Every puppy or kitten that is bred competes for a home with animals already waiting in shelters. Every year, countless healthy, loving animals remain homeless simply because there are not enough responsible homes for them all.

Sterilisation is one of the most effective ways to reduce animal suffering and prevent unnecessary overpopulation.

Where can I have my pet sterilised?

The Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA does not have a veterinarian on staff and is therefore unable to perform sterilisations. If you would like to have your pet sterilised, we encourage you to contact your nearest private veterinary practice to enquire about their sterilisation services, costs and booking procedures.

Choosing to sterilise your pet is an act of responsible pet ownership. It protects your pet, helps reduce the number of unwanted animals, and gives countless others a better chance of finding loving homes.

A healthier pet. Fewer unwanted litters. A kinder future for all animals.

𝑺𝒑𝒐𝒏𝒔𝒐𝒓 𝒂𝒏 𝑰𝒏𝒔𝒑𝒆𝒄𝒕𝒐𝒓. 𝑯𝒆𝒍𝒑 𝑺𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝑳𝒊𝒗𝒆𝒔.

When an emergency call comes in, every second counts. Whether it's an injured dog on the roadside, a neglected horse, abandoned puppies, or an animal suffering from cruelty, our Inspectors need to get there as quickly as possible. That is why our rescue vehicles are some of the most important tools we have.

Every kilometre travelled means fuel, vehicle maintenance, tyres, servicing and repairs - all of which come at a high cost.

🚗 Your support keeps our Inspectors moving

By sponsoring our Inspectorate, you help ensure that our rescue vehicles remain on the road and ready to respond when animals need us most.

Your donation helps cover:

⛽ Fuel for emergency rescues.
🔧 Vehicle servicing and maintenance.
🛞 Tyres and essential repairs.
🚨 Emergency response to cruelty and neglect cases.
🐾 Reaching animals in need across our communities.

Without reliable transport, we cannot investigate cruelty, rescue injured animals, or respond to emergency call-outs.

Every journey starts with someone who cares

A single donation can help an Inspector reach an animal that has no one else to turn to.

Together, we can keep our rescue vehicles moving - and keep saving lives.

❤️ Help keep our Inspectors on the road by making a donation today.

🐶 International Dog Day: Adopt Love. Change a Life.

Today we celebrate one of humanity's greatest companions – the loyal, loving and faithful dog.

At the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA, however, International Dog Day is about more than simply celebrating dogs. It is about giving homeless dogs the future they deserve.

Every day, our kennels are filled with wonderful dogs of every shape, size and personality. Some were abandoned, others were neglected, and many have simply run out of time. Yet despite everything they've been through, they continue to wag their tails, trust people and wait patiently for a family to call their own.

🏡 Adopt – Don't Shop

When you adopt, you don't just gain a pet - you save a life.

By choosing adoption instead of buying from breeders or pet shops, you:

❤️ Give a homeless dog a second chance.
🐾 Help reduce the demand for commercial breeding.
🏠 Free up space so another animal in need can be rescued.
👨‍👩‍👧 Welcome a loyal companion into your family.

Every dog adopted from the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA is waiting for one thing: someone to choose them.

🐕 Meet Your New Best Friend

Our kennels are home to incredible dogs of all ages, breeds and personalities.

Whether you're looking for an energetic adventure buddy, a gentle family companion or a best friend to brighten your days, there's a dog waiting just for you.

❤️ This International Dog Day...

Don't buy a dog.
Adopt one.
Because the greatest gift you can give a dog is not a toy or a treat...
It's a family.

📍 Visit the Vereeniging & Vanderbijlpark SPCA and meet the dogs waiting to become someone's forever friend.

𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭: 𝐓𝐡𝐞 𝐋𝐞𝐠𝐚𝐥 𝐏𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐢𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐞𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐏𝐂𝐀 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫

When people see an SPCA Inspector, they often think of animal rescues. While rescuing animals is an important part of the job, it is only one aspect of what Inspectors do. SPCA Inspectors are legally appointed officers with specific powers and responsibilities under South African law, working every day to protect animals from cruelty, neglect and abuse.

𝐖𝐡𝐚𝐭 𝐩𝐨𝐰𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐝𝐨𝐞𝐬 𝐚𝐧 𝐒𝐏𝐂𝐀 𝐈𝐧𝐬𝐩𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐚𝐯𝐞?

SPCA Inspectors are appointed in terms of the Animals Protection Act, 1962 (Act 71 of 1962) to prevent cruelty to animals - when people abuse animals. Once appointed, they are empowered to investigate complaints of animal cruelty and enforce the provisions of the Act.

Depending on the circumstances, an Inspector may:

- Investigate reports of animal cruelty or neglect.
- Inspect animals and the conditions in which they are kept.
- Issue warnings and educate owners on how to improve animal welfare.
- Obtain warrants to remove animals that are suffering.
- Seize animals where the law permits.
- Arrest offenders, without a warrant, in certain circumstances where the law authorises such an arrest.
- Open criminal cases and work alongside the South African Police Service.
- Prepare court dockets and give evidence in criminal trials.

𝐌𝐨𝐫𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧 𝐞𝐧𝐟𝐨𝐫𝐜𝐞𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭

The goal of the SPCA is not to punish people unnecessarily. In many cases, animal suffering is the result of a lack of knowledge or financial hardship rather than intentional cruelty.

Where appropriate, Inspectors will educate owners, provide guidance and allow reasonable time for conditions to be corrected. However, where an animal is suffering, or where the law is deliberately ignored, Inspectors will not hesitate to use the legal powers available to them to protect the animal and ensure offenders are held accountable.

Every investigation requires evidence gathering, detailed reports, photographs, witness statements and strict compliance with legal procedures to ensure that offenders can be successfully prosecuted.
