ADOPT GIMLI
ADOPT GIMLI
Our 4-month-old ginger heartthrob is equal parts adorable troublemaker and affectionate snugglebug, and needs a forever home!
This boy is full of love⌠and also full of beans! Gimli is very social and thrives on companionship, feline companionship, to be exact. He cannot be an only cat, even if you have cat-friendly dogs. He needs at least one other playful kitty buddy to wrestle with, chase, and nap beside.
Gimli is a smart cookie â so smart, in fact, he recently figured out how to open a window (đ
đ). Foster mom has since made it âGimli-proof,â but his intelligence means he needs mental stimulation and plenty of playtime. He gets bored quickly if left alone too long.
His ideal home:
* Has at least one other young, playful cat
* Someone who works from home or is around most weekends
* A family ready for daily interactive play and lots of love
* Humans who appreciate a kitten who is as clever as he is cute
In return, Gimli will give you endless cuddles, constant entertainment, and that âginger cat charmâ we all know and love.
If you think you have the time, love, and kitty friends to keep Gimli happy, message us to meet him â your heart may never be the same! â¤ď¸
Please email [email protected] to start the adoption process or ask any questions you may have.
An approved application and home check are a part of the adoption process. An adoption fee of R1250 applies. This fee covers their vet care expenses, including initial and booster vaccinations, rabies shots, deflea and deworming treatments, FIV and FeLV tests, microchip, and sterilization.

DISCARDED AND UNWANTED: MEET MUFFIN
This discarded, sweet, and gentle 15-week-old kitten was somehow discovered sleeping under the bonnet of a manâs car. He posted in his neighbourhood group asking how or what to use to poison a cat.
We were alerted by a concerned resident about this diabolical intention towards the kitten, and we agreed to offer her safe haven.
In the video, taken just a few hours after Muffin arrived at the shelter, one can clearly see how black her white fur is from the grease of the car engine.
One might assume she was simply lost, but the condition of her fur, with large, matted knots close to the skin, and her lacerated paw pads, some of which are scarred, made it clear she had been homeless for quite some time.
She is utterly adorable and so grateful for warmth, love, and a full belly.
Welcome home, Muffin. Weâve got you, babe, youâre safe with us now.

PLANTS THAT ARE TOXIC TO CATS
Cats are curious creatures and often explore their environment by chewing on plants. Unfortunately, some plants can be toxic to them. Hereâs a list of common plants that can be harmful to cats:
1. Lilies (Lilium species)
2. Sago Palm (Cycas revoluta)
3. Aloe Vera (Aloe barbadensis)
4. Daffodils (Narcissus spp.)
5. Snake Plant (Sansevieria trifasciata)
6. Oleander (Nerium oleander)
7. Tulips (Tulipa spp.)
8. Philodendron (Philodendron spp.)
9. Azalea (Rhododendron spp.)
10. Dieffenbachia (Dieffenbachia spp.)
Tips for Cat Owners
* Identify and Remove: Identify any toxic plants in your home or garden and remove them or place them out of reach.
* Alternative Plants: Opt for cat-safe plants like spider plants, Boston ferns, or bamboo.
* Veterinary Help: If you suspect your cat has ingested a toxic plant, seek veterinary help immediately.
Keeping your feline friend safe involves being aware of potential dangers in their environment. This is just a short list of many plants that are toxic to cats, and owners are encouraged to do their own research. Always check plant toxicity before introducing new plants to your home or garden.

LITTLE CLEO
We fetched Cleo at 5:15 pm on Sunday night, where she was found lying in the open at a feral feeding station. We have no idea how long she had been exposed. She was cold to the touch, and her paw pads felt like ice blocks.
She was totally unresponsive due to hypothermia. After subcutaneous fluids and warming her slowly over five hours, she began to move.
At a 4 a.m. feed, she took 18 ml of formula and, for the first time, was able to lift her little head.
Welcome home, Cleo, to the beginning of your new life.
We canât save the world, but we can make a world of difference to each life we save.

TAKE A CHANCE ON A FERAL: JESSE
Below is the story of Jesse, written by Monique Henneke de Swart, who took a chance on a feral in need.
âIn December 2023, we went shopping at a mall and saw two feral cats. We started feeding them immediately: Jesse and her constant companion, Camo. They had clearly been through so much together, and there was something about the way they looked out for one another that stopped us in our tracks.
â¨They had each other⌠until one day, they didnât.
Camo was tragically hit by a car in July 2024. Jesse was left alone, grieving, scared, and forced to survive without her friend. Not long after, she was injured in a fight with another cat. Thatâs when we knew we couldnât just be bystanders anymore. She needed help, and we needed to try.
We brought her to the vet, where she received stitches and was diagnosed with FIV. I didnât know anything about feral cats. I didnât know what FIV was. But I took a chance on Jesse, and in her own quiet way, she took a chance on me. I started learning everything I could about feral cats and how to support those living with FIV. It was overwhelming at times, but something in my heart told me Jesse was worth it.
We knew it wouldnât be easy. But we also knew we couldnât let her go back to that life.
So we made her a space of her own in our home, a place where she could feel safe. A place to heal. It took time, patience, and trust. But slowly⌠Jesse began to blossom.
Now, nearly a year later, Jesse is home. Truly home. Sheâs still shy, but sheâs safe. Sheâs warm. Sheâs loved. Her eyes shine brighter now, and her spirit is no longer just surviving, itâs thriving.
â¨She may have started as a feral cat behind a mall, but today⌠sheâs family.â

GORGEOUS GIMLI
Our 14-week-old ginger male kitten is ready for his forever home!
Fully vaccinated, dewormed, tested negative for FIV and FeLV, and microchipped, he is just waiting for his special human to take him home.
Gimli has been on his own for a few weeks now since his sister was adopted, and he would truly love the chance to find a home where he can be loved and cherished.
Heâs a sociable boy, and when heâs excited, he chirps like a bird and is very talkative when spoken to. Lovable Gimli would make an excellent companion for an older pet.

AWESOME OREO
High energy, super playful, lovable and curious, Oreo, with his striking golden eyes, has the most delightful nature.
After moving to the garden cabana, he made friends with all 8 residents within minutes of arriving, and then set about exploring every tree that had been secured against the fence.
From a shy, frightened 14 week old kitten found in the rain at a garage, to a confident, happy, sweet and entertaining seven and a half month old boy who loves humans and affection, he would be an ideal companion for either an older or a younger cat.

ADOPT DEVAN
At six months of age, Devan and his brother, Deacon, came to us unsociable, fearful, and wary of people. Interacting with them in a small mew in our cattery did little to earn either of their trust, and finally, at a year old, they were moved to a large garden cabana.
Over the past six months, Devan has slowly blossomed into the trusting, sweet, lovable, and gentle boy you see today.
This 18-month-old, long-haired mummyâs boy would need a calm household with no more than one or two other pets, as he is very demanding of love and affection. He would also need to be groomed at least once a week to prevent knots from forming in his beautiful long coat.
If youâre interested in adopting this sweet ginger fluffball, please email [email protected]
An approved application and home check are part of the adoption process. Adoption fees of R850 to cats over a year old. 4 WEEK OLD SONNY AND CHER
The skinny kittens found at a business in Hennopsrivier have transformed from weak and undernourished little ones into chubby, boisterous, and busy tots.
A huge thank you to bottle-feeder Sonya for your dedication and love in raising and caring for these tiny tots.
Hand-reared, bottle-fed babies make the most amazing, lovable, interactive, sociable, and confident companions.
The human imprinting during their development sets hand-reared kittens apart from those raised by their mother.
Unfortunately, we cannot allow any meet-and-greets with the public, but we will feature them regularly until they are ready for their forever homes.
Your financial support enables us to transform the lives of the forgotten, discarded, and high-risk. Thank you for walking the road of rescue with us.

MILLY: HOLDING HER HEAD UP HIGH
Gorgeous Milly, one of our newest rescues, came to the shelter disinterested in her surroundings and the staff, sullen and obviously very unhappy.
In just two weeks, she has blossomed into a friendly, lovable, interactive, and most importantly, happy little girl.
Whatever Milly went through prior to arriving at the shelter, she has emotionally recovered from and has left behind whatever traumas and difficulties she was forced to endure.
She has been sterilised and tested negative for FIV and FeLV. We would like to give Milly at least another month in our cattery before making her eligible for adoption.
This is what we do: change miserable existences into happy lives.

THE VULNERABLE AND VOICELESS
THE VULNERABLE AND VOICELESS
Feral and free-roaming cats, whether in colonies or lone roamers, have a tough, short life compared to the adored and loved domestic cat. It is these cats that embody the core of our work in rescue.
We announced early in 2024 that our shelter was full. To date, in 2025, we have taken in 26 new rescuesâfour mummy cats and their offspring of nine, eight individual kittens, and four adult cats. All but eight-week-old Glenn-Finn survived; he was put to sleep due to severe dog bites.
You might argueâwe announce we're full, yet we still take in rescues. If adult homeless cats have a hard life, imagine what life must be like for homeless lactating mother cats or the six- or fifteen-week-old abandoned or dumped kittens. Their chances of survival are greatly reduced, and usually, the end doesn't come without a great deal of suffering beforehand. So yes, our shelter is overfullâand we will continue to be the voice for the vulnerable, high-risk, and voiceless.
Meet Grace, a ginger mummy and her three adorable six-day-old ginger kittens, now safely in our care. Our resources are pushed to the limit, and we are in need of high-protein, quality kitten kibble, kitten pouches, and kitten mousse. One-off donations are deeply appreciated, and for those who are able to give regularly, why not consider a monthly scheduled payment and be part of changing and saving lives?
Together, we always achieve more.
You can also order online from Takealot or Pet Hero and having your donation delivered straight to our door. Our Takealot wishlist is in the link in our bio.

đ¨ If you think your cat has eaten something toxic, contact your vet immediately! Early action can save their life.

BECOME A KITTY ANGEL
To be honest we canât do as much as we do without YOU!
We rely on public support to help us through each month with whatever comes our way. Whether itâs preparing for kitten season by making sure we can TNR as many cats as we can, or making sure all our cats are vaccinated, fed, and healthy, or simply keeping our lights on, we need help in doing so.
You can become a kitty angel today by becoming a monthly donor. From as little as R90 a month you can help us cover many of our monthly running costs, without breaking the bank.
Please consider setting up a recurring eft to help support us in caring for our cats.

A LITTLE BIT ABOUT US
At Friends of Ferals, we are a pro-life, non-profit organization dedicated to addressing the plight of feral cats in and around Centurion. With the feral cat population at an all-time high, itâs more important than ever to take action. Did you know that one unsterilized female cat and her offspring can produce up to 60,000 cats in just five years? Many of these cats live short, painful lives, facing starvation, disease, and cruelty.
Our mission is driven by the S.A.F.E.R. Initiative:
đ Sterilization: Trapping and sterilizing feral cats to control their population and improve their health.
đ Awareness: Educating the public about the feral cat crisis through events and partnerships.
đ Feeding: Organizing feeding programs to ensure sterilized ferals get regular sustenance.
đ Education: Teaching all ages about the importance and care of cats, dispelling myths, and promoting responsible pet ownership.
đ Rehabilitation and Homing: Providing shelter and medical care for sick or injured ferals, and finding homes for adoptable cats.
We are a small organisation, a lot of what happens is all through Charmaine, so when we say we cannot continue our work without your help and support, we mean it! Together, we can make a difference. Join us in creating a safer, kinder world for cats. đ

BLOSSOMING WASILLA
Our sweet Wasilla was rescued at 14 weeks old, two weeks after we had trapped her three siblings. When feral kittens are rescued over eight weeks old, it becomes more difficult to tame and socialise them.
We hoped that the cattery environment, with staff constantly around all day, would help tame and socialise her and that we could slowly win her trust. But she remained wary of any human getting too close to her, to the extent that we even had to take her to our vet to get her booster vaccinations and deworming done.
After nine months in the cattery, we finally moved her to a garden cabana, and suddenly, Wasilla has blossomed into the sweetest and most playful young adult. She allows staff to get within an armâs length of her, and slowly she is gaining more self-confidence and becoming more trusting of her carers.
Every cat is different. Some almost tame cats, when moved to one of our large garden cabanas from the cattery, revert to a fearful and almost feral state, while others, like Wasilla, blossom and thrive in the big space.
She is also enjoying the company and interaction of seven other cats, who will hopefully continue to imprint on her that we humans at the shelter arenât so bad after all.

UPDATE: CHARLOTTE / CHARLEY, NOW OREO
Remember our posts in August about Charlotte / Charley? The 9 month old kitten, who lived a number of weeks in the outdoors, with a rubber band from a vent or air conditioner around his neck and under one arm pit which restricted his head movements.
First named Charlotte, until we found out he was in fact a boy, quickly changed to Charley. We learnt from our vet that heâs a Ragamese, a cross between Ragdoll and Siamese, and being highly sensitive, he was proving a challenging task to tame and socialise.
Elzet met our hissing darling, and immediately lost her heart to the sweet boy. It is always a worry for us to allow an adoption when a cat or kitten is not completely tame and socialised. But after 3 weeks we were just not making enough process with Charley. One day he'd allow us to stroke his head and the next he'd want to rip our fingers off.
Elzet and her family committed to round-the-clock interaction, socialisation and love to tame Charley and win his trust.
He is now completely tame, a very chatty boy who is part of the family, even befriending his kitty siblings. He also allows his human Dad to rub his belly and cradle him in his arms like a baby.
He was renamed Oreo, and is living his best life ever! Thank you so much Elzet and family for your dedication, patience and love in winning the love and trust of Oreo.
Proving once again; Together we can achieve so much more.

HAPPY CATURDAY WITH VERONA
Meet Verona, a sweet and playful tabby, just one of the many cuties at our shelter. Whether itâs a wand toy or some leaves, she loves a chance to play!
Her and her sister are fondly referred to as âthe squeaky sistersâ, as they make little squeak meows when you pet them. They have spent most of their lives at shelter, but would still love a chance at a forever home.
If youâre considering adopting an adult cat, why not pop round to the shelter and meet some of our wonderful rescues?
And if you canât adopt, but have some free time, why not visit our rescues and give them the gift of your love and attention, and some playtime of course.
Weâre open to the public 9:30 - 3:30 Tuesdays to Saturdays.
