A Glorious Throwback to True Working Power 🐾
This rare 1913 photograph from Amsterdam captures a German Shepherd mid-flight, clearing an astonishing 3.5 meters (11.5 feet). A true testament to the breed’s original strength, drive, and working ability.
Back then, German Shepherds were bred for one purpose: function. These dogs had straight backs, powerful builds, and the heart to work tirelessly alongside their handlers. They weren’t bred for beauty — they were bred for battlefields, farms, and frontline service.
Today, much of that has changed. Breeding priorities have shifted toward appearance, leading to sloped backs, fragile joints, and diminished working ability. Training has softened, and physical challenges like hip dysplasia are now common.
This image is more than history — it’s a reminder.
A reminder of what the breed once was.
A call to preserve the working traits that made the German Shepherd legendary.
Because genetics don’t lie.
And true working spirit never fades.
