⛰️🐾 A LITTLE UPDATE ON LELANI’S RHINO PEAK CHALLENGE ❤️

After staying overnight at Garden Castle Hut, Lelani and her fellow hikers set off at the break of dawn this morning to take on the 18 km Rhino Peak challenge in support of GCAW.

Unfortunately, due to the challenging mountain conditions and some unexpected circumstances, Lelani was unable to complete the hike today.

Although it wasn't the outcome she had hoped for, this is certainly not the end of the challenge! 💪⛰️ Lelani is already looking forward to taking on Rhino Peak again at the next opportunity.

We are incredibly proud of her for taking on this challenge and for her commitment to raising much-needed funds for the animals in our care. ❤️🐶🐱

The mountain may have won today, but this story isn't over! 🐾⛰️

🐾 UPDATE ON TWO DOGS FOUND IN THE COMMUNITY ❤️

Following the recent community outreach, the GCAW team returned on Wednesday to visit the two severely underweight dogs found living on chains along the Pevensey Road area.

Due to the recent snow and difficult road conditions, the area could only be accessed with a 4x4 vehicle, but that didn't stop the team from getting to these two dogs.

The team moved one of the dogs closer to the other so they could have some company, and made their kennels warmer and more comfortable.

🐾 Pallets were added to raise their beds off the ground
🐾 A warm hay bed was made for each kennel
🐾 Blankets were provided
🐾 Runner chains were installed to give both dogs more freedom to move around
🐾 Another bag of dog food was left for them

A very special thank you to Robyn Blomeyer, who generously donated and delivered the calf kennels for these two dogs. ❤️

While the work was being done, both dogs were given a warm, yummy cooked meal. Seeing their full tummies and the comfort of warmth brought some much-needed relief to these beautiful dogs.

🐾 COMMUNITY OUTREACH – MAHWAQA ❤️

On Wednesday, the GCAW team visited the Mahwaqa community as part of our ongoing rabies vaccination campaign.

During the outreach we vaccinated:
🐶 47 dogs
🐱 13 cats

Sadly, we also found two desperately thin dogs living on chains in heartbreaking conditions.

Because of the generosity of our supporters, we were able to provide them with food immediately. Kennels and blankets will be delivered, and next week running chains will be installed to give them more freedom to move. A local farmer has also kindly offered to keep a close eye on them.

💛 This is why food donations are so important.

Every bag of dog food, every tin of pet food and every donation helps us respond immediately when we find animals suffering from neglect or starvation.

Food donations can be dropped off at the GCAW Second Hand Shop during business hours, or if you would prefer to help financially, donations can be made via EFT.
