Ever wondered why your older dog or arthritic pet seems more uncomfortable in the cold? 🐾

In colder weather, the tissues around the joints (like muscles, ligaments, and joint capsules) tend to tighten and lose flexibility, making movement stiff and uncomfortable. Cold temperatures can also reduce blood flow to the joints, so less oxygen and nutrients reach these sensitive areas.

For dogs with arthritis, the protective cartilage is already worn down, causing increased friction between the bones. When joints stiffen in the cold, this friction worsens—leading to more pain. Changes in barometric pressure can also increase pressure within the joints, adding to that achy feeling.
