A HUGE CONGRATULATIONS TO MARK & DIESEL!

We are incredibly proud to congratulate our wonderful client Mark Trollip and his very special sheepdog Diesel on their outstanding achievements!

Diesel has once again proven why he is one of South Africa’s top sheepdogs, adding the 2026 SA National Sheepdog Championship to an already remarkable list of achievements.

Diesel has been SA Dog of the Year in 2022, 2023, 2025 and 2026, Reserve Dog of the Year in 2024, and represented South Africa at the World Sheepdog Trials in Ireland. What an incredible partnership between dog and handler!

And while Diesel may be a champion in the field, at our practice he has another very important title… COOKIE MONSTER! 🍪😂 He absolutely LOVES his biscuits, and we’re always happy to spoil this superstar when he visits us!

Congratulations, Mark and Diesel! ❤️ We are so proud to have you as part of the Oakhurst Animal Clinic family. Here’s to many more victories, biscuits and adventures!

Ever wondered why your older dog or arthritic pet seems more uncomfortable in the cold? 🐾

In colder weather, the tissues around the joints (like muscles, ligaments, and joint capsules) tend to tighten and lose flexibility, making movement stiff and uncomfortable. Cold temperatures can also reduce blood flow to the joints, so less oxygen and nutrients reach these sensitive areas.

For dogs with arthritis, the protective cartilage is already worn down, causing increased friction between the bones. When joints stiffen in the cold, this friction worsens—leading to more pain. Changes in barometric pressure can also increase pressure within the joints, adding to that achy feeling.

The good news is there are ways to help! Joint supplements can support cartilage health and improve mobility over time, while a visit to your veterinarian can ensure your pet receives the right pain relief or anti-inflammatory medication when needed.
