Update on Bailey 😍

A very happy chap, being the only child and protecting his retired mama. Dare we say he dotes on her like no one else had ever before 😂🥰 but, it’s because he gets all the spoils and love and he never ever has to share that again.

Just like his sister Lulu, he loves his soft (and hard) toys and wants to be as close to his human as possible. He is very playful and scares off all the baddies with the odd bark.

Thanks for all your support so that we are able to do exactly this 👇🏽🫶🏽

Hey fam 🐾

Just an update on Lulu and how she has become a fully grown, full-bodied lady 🥰

See some photos below of a happy gal.

To be honest, even on the day she was rescued and basically devouring our hands for some kibble, she was a happy girl. Now she is really living her best life, chasing hadedas, destroying plastic bottles and soccer balls, and sleeping warm in a cozy bed inside the house. She has come to be a girl who is very protective of her new family, but maybe it’s because she does not want to lose out on yet another opportunity of having a family of her own.

Some heartwarming photos of her brother, Bailey, to follow!

WE NEED A NEW SHELTER VEHICLE

Our Bantam shelter vehicle, Freeda, is now 20 years old. She has served us faithfully and reliably for over nine years. She has completed more than 1,700 vet runs, 126 feral assessments, and 760 trappings, and has carried 140kg of litter and 260kg of cat and dog food each month, covering more than 389,000km. Our old girl is tired and worn out and needs to retire.

In the last 2 years, we have had to work within a 23km radius to avoid putting further strain and wear and tear on Freeda. This has impacted our work and our ability to assist the public, companies, and body corporates with colony assessments and TNR for free-roaming colonies.

Our mechanic is great, but he’s no magician. Two weeks ago, he spent many hours—and a great deal of patience—replacing numerous parts and ironing out the odd old-age quirks of Freeda. R5,000 later, she is back on the road after standing idle for a week, but our mechanic, Nkosi, advises that it is time for a new vehicle. A big thank you to Nkosi for always fitting us in on short notice to tend to Freeda’s needs and for always giving us great discounts.

We are appealing to the general public, car dealerships, and anyone who can assist in providing Friends of Ferals with a reliable vehicle. For car dealerships, corporates, and companies, we welcome a vehicle with the branding of the sponsoring company or corporate.

In the meantime, we drive to our rescue and sterilisation vets in faith that Freeda will keep up with our demands. We ask the public to be understanding and considerate—when we say we can’t drive 52 km to conduct a feral colony assessment, we truly mean it.

Please help us get a much needed shelter vehicle!

WE'RE RACING AGAINST TIME - PLEASE SUPPORT US!
Humans, we have 89 days until 1 December. At that time, the boarding facility we currently reside in, will need its kennels for client dogs. And at that time, OUR SHELTER DOGS WILL NEED TO MOVE! At this stage, we have nowhere to move too given that its peak boarding season in December and January. So, our MISSION is to bring our numbers down as low as possible by 1 December. There is a chance that if we can get our numbers lower, we may be able to stay put. And that will be a GODSEND. However, it will all depend on a mix of variables - client bookings, available space etc.

The BOTTOMLINE is that we MUST REDUCE OUR NUMBERS. We're calling on all animal lovers to help us avoid a crisis by SHARING AND NETWORKING our dogs FAR AND WIDE. If we can find good FOSTER AND FOREVER HOMES for our furry ones, we will avoid a disaster in Dec /Jan, and bless lives.

Please SPREAD THE WORD.
If you know good humans who are looking to adopt, please refer them to us!
If you're willing to foster a dog, please contact us!
And finally, if you are online, please SHARE, SHARE, SHARE!

The 106 gorgeous furry kids in our care are featured in our main adoptions album. You will find the link here:

IF WE BAND TOGETHER & SHARE LIKE CRAZY, and FIND FOSTER AND FOREVER HOMES, we will all be OK!

NOTE: We love our shelter dogs. They are our family. We will do everything in our power to keep them safe during this pressure situation - BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP.

The Cape of Good Hope SPCA urgently need donations, blankets and food for rescued animals

The South African Weather Service has informed the City of Cape Town’s Disaster Risk Management Centre that further disruptive rain and damaging winds are expected today, Tuesday, 9 July 2024. An orange level 6 warning is in effect. Further rain will lead to large scale flooding and possible mudslides, exacerbating the impacts of the inclement weather we’ve already experienced. We are expecting these hazardous conditions to displace pets and farm animals who will be in desperate need of rescue and warmth

Our friends at PetShop Science, have stepped in to help and will be taking up collections for us at their stores located at convenient spots around the city. Please drop off your donations at the following stores:

FairBridge Mall
Durbanville
N1 City
Old Paarl (by the PnP Hyper)
Plumstead
Protea Heights (Boulevard Square)
Rondebosch
Tokai (Blue Route Mall)
Checkers Bayside Mall

Alternatively, you can donate

Lulu and Bailey 🐾🥲

Two severely underweight Great Danes that are currently in our care. Taken in today and safely in foster homes now but we have a lot of food and veterinary expenses waiting to get them healthy, fattened up and to get Lulu spayed (Bailey is castrated). The emaciated condition they are in is really heartbreaking but their lives will be quality lives going forward, we will make sure of that.

We humbly request your contributions towards the care of these two very gentle giants 🙏🏽. Please use LuluBailey as your reference.

We truly appreciate our supporters’ contributions to all the other animals in our care 🐾
