WE NEED A NEW SHELTER VEHICLE
Our Bantam shelter vehicle, Freeda, is now 20 years old. She has served us faithfully and reliably for over nine years. She has completed more than 1,700 vet runs, 126 feral assessments, and 760 trappings, and has carried 140kg of litter and 260kg of cat and dog food each month, covering more than 389,000km. Our old girl is tired and worn out and needs to retire.
In the last 2 years, we have had to work within a 23km radius to avoid putting further strain and wear and tear on Freeda. This has impacted our work and our ability to assist the public, companies, and body corporates with colony assessments and TNR for free-roaming colonies.
Our mechanic is great, but he’s no magician. Two weeks ago, he spent many hours—and a great deal of patience—replacing numerous parts and ironing out the odd old-age quirks of Freeda. R5,000 later, she is back on the road after standing idle for a week, but our mechanic, Nkosi, advises that it is time for a new vehicle. A big thank you to Nkosi for always fitting us in on short notice to tend to Freeda’s needs and for always giving us great discounts.
We are appealing to the general public, car dealerships, and anyone who can assist in providing Friends of Ferals with a reliable vehicle. For car dealerships, corporates, and companies, we welcome a vehicle with the branding of the sponsoring company or corporate.
In the meantime, we drive to our rescue and sterilisation vets in faith that Freeda will keep up with our demands. We ask the public to be understanding and considerate—when we say we can’t drive 52 km to conduct a feral colony assessment, we truly mean it.
Please help us get a much needed shelter vehicle!
