Our young homebred boy has been crowned best Beared Silkie cockerel in South Africa by winning the Reserve Breed Champion title at the 2025 SASPO National Show. 119 Silkies were entered. We're humbled, grateful and simply still just reeling! 🏆🤍🌟

Bathurst Agricultural Show 2025. Our homebred white Bearded Silkie pullet took Breed Champion AND Best Large Soft Feather Bird on Show out of a total of almost 500 entries!!! 🏆 And our Cockerel (also homebred) took Reserve Breed Champion out of a class of 26 Bearded Silkies😄🤸‍♀️

This is a very, very hard decision. I have to reduce my flock and have decided to only keep a select few Silkies for now. These two are the VERY BEST from last year's breeding season and need to go to someone that is committed to continue developing the Millefleur Pekin in South Africa.

They are the result of YEARS of hard work by Gert Jordaan. Their genetic base was built from scratch using Barb d'Uccles - there is thus wonderful hybrid vigour! Now it's just fine-tuning the type without losing the colour and distribution of the tipping etc.

There is one more lovely show quality cockerel available (he'll be on auction later) but this girl here, she took 2BB to a black stag in September, is the only correctly marked hen I got out of about 40 chicks last year!

I put her to my winning black Pekin Frizzle and will also be making the F1 progeny available on Auction later this year.

What a crazy, stressful year 2024 has been!

We relocated back to our forest house and had to build new coops. My dogs however were excellent quality control officers and enthusiastically demonstrated to us, in a very practical way, that they were in fact not "predator-proof". They broke in not once, but a whole four d@mn times - each time finding another weak spot!!! They killed all my Pekin breeding pairs and left me only with my younguns that I was considering selling 😫

Thankfully my Silkies were left unscathed and our Breeding Programme is running at full tilt. I'll share a few pics of some very exciting progeny shortly 😄
