Happy St Andrew's Day to all our Scottish friends and Scotty Dog Supporters.
Scotland is absolutely at the heart of everything we do, and this day is one of the two major celebration days in Scotland (the other being Hogmanay - New Year's Eve).
So how did a humble Galilean fisherman turned disciple become the patron saint of a tiny wee country thousands of miles away from modern-day Israel? Well, the story goes like this: in the 9th Century, King Angus in Scotland was preparing for a battle against the English. St Andrew appeared to King Angus in a dream promising him victory and on the day of the battle, an X symbol appeared in the sky, which was the symbol of St Andrew, so he vowed that if they won, St Andrew would be made the patron saint of Scotland - and that is exactly what happened.
This is why the Scottish flag has the X-shaped cross on a blue background, as it is St Andrew's symbol (eagle-eyed customers might have noticed the St Andrew's Cross on Scottie's scarf in our logo).
St Andrew was officially named the patron saint of Scotland in 1320.
So today is a day to celebrate all things Scottish! How about some traditional Scottish shortbread to accompany a wee dram?
