Most of us have at one stage had to book our pets into a kennel, but the last time did that my Labbies and Yorkie were so traumatised I decided never again!! Please always be aware of the conditions of the kennels where you leave your dogs if they HAVE to be at kennels.

Sad to hear about the recent incident where 3 dogs escaped from a local boarding kennel during the Christmas period. Unfortunately, one dog died from heat exhaustion and dehydration before it was discovered. This isn’t the first time I’ve heard of similar tragedies in our area, leading to heart-wrenching outcomes. In one case, a dog was mistakenly reported as already collected, only to be found deceased later.
While many boarding facilities provide great care, it’s clear that some dogs simply don’t handle being away from home well, particularly being away from their human family as well. Being confined in a kennel environment can cause stress and trauma, especially for dogs who aren’t used to it. As a result, some may even suffer long-term emotional impacts.
Perhaps it's time to consider alternatives like pet sitters or smaller in-home boarding, where dogs are treated as part of the family. These options often provide a more personal, relaxed experience and can sometimes even be more affordable, especially for families with multiple pets.
