I often wonder how many lives our animals have touched. After 1000's of school visits and birthday parties, this little White Eared Marmoset Monkey "Lady" accompanied us and stole treats and hearts, feasted on Giant Meal Worms and small bananas she opened like a cartoon monkey. She opened the doors to kids learning about monkeys as pets and our local monkeys' plight has come to an end as she will be enjoying her eternal rest. Although our hearts are broken, we are reminded what a privilege it was to have been able to work /enjoy/ love and learn from this little lady. As you may know Lady and Whistler were one of the few personal pets I had since before Mobilezoo and the male Whistler never allowed us to interact with him since he matured. Its quite sad to see him look for her and Caitlin, and I have decided to perhaps get another young pair to continue with the educational component, knowing we can never replace the emptiness she has left behind in our hearts.

Time to switch on the heaters and lights and cry at the end of the month when the Eskom bill arrives but something that needs to be done. There are quite a few surrenders upcoming this month for rehoming, including 2 bonded beige male chinchillas, a large dumeril boa male and a little boy sugar glider.

MobileZoo's relationship with Bambanani Family Restaurant dates back with monthly visits since 7 March 2013. My kids accompanied me on many presentations and became something to look forward to for them as they could play in different areas I and I did not have to worry about them as Bambanani had great staff looking after them and I could safely focus on my presentations knowing they are safe. Weather also not a problem as they huge varied indoor and outdoor play areas with many things to do and their Pizzas were always something to look forward to. It would be really sad to let them go and they need our help. Lets Help!

Our 2026 Animal List Video is nearly done and delayed as we were waiting for 2 special creatures to join us. (90% of the animals used in our educational demos are abandoned/surrendered or rescued) but Catlin and I are awaiting the arrival of 2 new animals. They are not often seen in the pet trade and they are not endangered and originate from South America but were bred locally. I guess we can wait a few days or we will just have to add a clip or photo of their parents until they arrive!

The attached photo is one of my favourites, our female Dumeril Boa, which originates from Madagascar, for older kids or primary school visits.

Kruger National Park. Where wildlife should be protected but unfortunately also a spot where people stop and pick up tortoises and chameleons. They know its illegal but it still happens.

Spot the animal? Just type the third letter of the animal name.

🐢 We can’t close the books on 2025 without mentioning this gal 🐢

Around 1884 (not long after the Civil War) a little tortoise was born in the Galápagos islands.

At some point she was moved to the Bronx Zoo and then in 1928 she was transferred to the San Diego Zoo.

That’s where she lived, thrived and became a favorite of visitors and staff for nearly 100 years.

The called her Gramma and during her life we saw 20 presidents, 2 World Wars, the invention of flight, the Great Depression and a million other things.

The crazy thing is, at age 141, she didn’t die on her own. She developed a bone disorder and doctors decided (for her own benefit) to humanely end her journey. Who knows how long she might have gone on for.

Since we always mention the celebrities and important people who pass at the end of a year… I thought ‘Gramma’ deserved a nod 🤗

BTW- Grammas diet consisted of her favorites; lettuce snd cactus fruit.

So, if you wanna live to 141…

I’m just saying 😌 🥬 🍉

The recent public utterances by the National Council of SPCAs (NSPCA), in which they presume to question Minister John Steenhuisen’s appointment of Minister Willie Aucamp and, by extension, the prerogative of the President of South Africa, are not only profoundly inappropriate, they represent an a...

A Huge thank you to Lifestyle Pet Hyper for the lovely Red Knee Tarantula to replace our Fireleg that accompanied us to school visits the past 2 years Unfortunately she passed due to a bad molt as her skin stuck around her mouth and fangs. Well this new tarantula can lift the glass of her cage she came with and escape her enclosure to be found looking at our paintings three rooms away! She has now earned her name "Houdini" and unfortunately now has another enclosure she cannot escape from.
