‼️❗🚨🐶PROJECT: ANTI-ANIMAL CRUELTY THE POISONING OF DOGS AND OTHER PETS🐶🚨❗‼️
Specialised Security Services warns pet owners to be vigilant as we receive more and more reports of pets, especially dogs, being poisoned.
Recent reports show that almost 1,000 dogs are being poisoned per month! Pet owners should take precautionary measures to keep their pets away from their front yards, let them sleep inside the house at night and to always report poisoning incidents to
the authorities.
• 97% of poisoned animals do not survive the ordeal.
• Aldicarb, or “Two-step”, is the most frequently used poison.
• This poison is the major active ingredient of several insecticides, and it is lethal.
• It is illegal to sell “Two-step”, in South Africa but crime syndicates continue to import it.
• It resembles tiny grey or black grains and is often sold in small plastic packets.
EFFECTS OF ALDICARB:
• After consuming this poison, the animal’s nervous system shuts down.
• The animal is rendered immobile and then suffocates to death.
• A large dog will die in 20 minutes – this poison is so lethal that a teaspoon can kill a rhino – one can then imagine the impact it would have on a much smaller household pet.
• Symptoms to be aware of:
o Disorientation.
o Vomiting.
o Confusion and excessive salivation.
o Slimy coughing, overly runny nose.
o Hyperventilation.
o Breathing difficulties.
o Convulsion and epileptic seizures.
o Dark and sticky mucous.
o Pupils that are abnormal; pinpoint or dilated.
o Tremors and twitching of the muscles.
o Partial or temporary paralysis.
o Partial immobility.
o Unconsciousness.
o Coma.
o Nasal bleeding.
o Temporary blindness.
o Blood in urine.
PRECAUTIONARY MEASURES:
• Keep animals in the house at night.
• Inspect the fence around your property before letting your animals out.
• Always keep them at a safe distance away from the fence unless you are with them to stop them from eating anything unfamiliar thrown over the fence.
• It is ideal if you are able to train your dog not to eat anything unless you give it to them.
Contact your veterinarian immediately if you suspect poisoning. Without the dog barking and warning the owners and their neighbours, criminals will gain easy
access and break into the targeted home. It is said that syndicates would target a whole neighbourhood’s animals in order for them to enter residences without any interferences. Cats are usually accidental victims of poisoning as are small children.
It is important to be extremely wary of this poison and to keep small children and companion animals safe at all costs.
