I’ve been a bit quiet on here for the past few months, but I’m hoping to change that in the new year.
There are a few new interests and developments I’m excited to share — and today is a perfect place to start.

For those who know me, L173 plecos have been a long-time favourite of mine. Getting them into South Africa was a real challenge, but worth every bit of effort. I’m now fortunate to have two separate bloodlines — the Will line, and the Chromapark line (arriving soon).

Here are some of the first offspring. Rare, striking, and genuinely fascinating fish.

More updates to come. 🐟✨

Hi Ram Tank followers

We’re stepping aside from the usual updates to share something personal and important. One of our 'extended hobbyist family', someone we admire and have worked together with, is going through a tough time, and we’d like to help shine a light on her story.

She’s launched a campaign for urgent support, and we believe in the power of community to bring change. If you feel moved to do so, please read, share, or support. Every bit helps.

I tried to think of some catchy phrases as a starting point, such as “Get Jamie to old age,… Bernice Blignaut needs your support for Help Jamie Fight to Live!

Powder Blue Rams possess an unparalleled radiance. If a display of vibrant rams is what you seek, few—if any—can rival the sheer brilliance of a well-kept group of Powder Blues. Their striking contrast of shimmering blue scales against a warm orange head creates a spectacle unlike any other Ram strain. Simply breathtaking.

Remember this guy?
This was filmed in a friends tank who helped me keep the first Dark knights safe.
He (Charles du Plessis) always kept a few pairs in case something happened and I lost all my fish
This was a beautiful male - and at the time it caused quite a stir when the world was introduced to him

When it comes to my L134 Leopard Frog (Peckoltia compta) colony, things are going exceptionally well. I recently added some wild-caught specimens, and they’ve settled in seamlessly.

The tank has become a hive of activity, with different males and females taking turns spawning. I’m now able to collect new offspring every week or two, a steady and exciting reward for the effort.

There’s something incredibly satisfying about getting these notoriously tricky fish to breed. Understanding their behavior will take time and persistence, but the results make it all worthwhile.

I made a new addition to my fishkeeping
These are L260 - Queen Arabesque hypancistrus.
Its a small colony which I imported from Hungary, made up of some Wild Caught specimens, as well as some tank breds.

Its a truly beautiful species, its name doing it justice in describing it pattern.

I’m thrilled to share this stunning pair of Blue Rams, which mark the beginning of what I can confidently call my own line of "South African Blue Rams".

The male is the result of a two-year breeding project combining the best traits from various sources: my older Blue Rams, wild-caught Blue Rams, a line of German Blues imported directly from Dresden, and a touch of Dark gene to enhance density and depth in coloration, especially in the second generation.

The female is an F2 Columbian Ram. While her genetic traits are less condensed, she brings exceptional beauty and much-needed genetic vigor to the pairing, ensuring a robust and balanced line moving forward.

The pair already shows promise. The male is actively pursuing the female, and her flanks are beginning to flush a vibrant pink—a strong indicator that spawning might be just around the corner. Exciting times ahead!

Its about a month later. The Powder Blue/Electric blue as well as Dark knight offspring have grown very well and hints of colour is beginning to show.
