Here are a few essential tips to keep dogs safe and happy in the heat:
Hydration is key💧
Always provide fresh, cool water for your dog. Consider carrying a portable water bowl during walks.
Avoid midday heat 🌞
Walk your dog early in the morning or late in the evening when temperatures are cooler. Hot pavement can burn their paws, so test it with your hand first!
Create shaded spaces 🏡
Make sure your dog has access to cool, shaded areas indoors or outdoors. A cooling mat can also help them relax.
Limit exercise 🐾
Overexertion in the heat can lead to heatstroke. Keep playtime short and light when it’s hot outside.
Never leave dogs in cars 🚗
Even a few minutes in a parked car can be life-threatening as temperatures rise rapidly.
Watch for signs of heatstroke ⚠️
Symptoms include excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, or vomiting. If you notice these, act quickly by cooling them down with water and contacting a vet.
