PUBLIC STATEMENT FROM DELENITOR ANIMAL LODGE 🐾
We’ve heard that there has been a little bit of growling in some of our favourite community groups lately. 😵💫
While we are saddened that the situation has reached this point, we also believe it is important to remember that there are always multiple sides to every story — and one perspective that has largely been missing is that of the people who have loved, cared for and worked with Athena every single day for the past three years.
Athena is kind, loving and an absolute bundle of joy. If circumstances allowed, she would happily live in our home. Unfortunately, Athena does not get along with other dogs, which has made finding the right environment for her particularly challenging.
For the past three years, Delenitor Animal Lodge has been her home.
During that time, we have:
- Bathed her monthly
- Clipped her nails and attended to her basic grooming
- Ensured that her vaccinations remain up to date
- Fed her — at times from our own pocket
- Played with her and given her love and attention
- Made sure she is warm, safe and comfortable throughout the winter months
We love Athena dearly and want nothing more than what is best for her.
We have even made contact with an incredible woman who was willing to assist us in finding Athena a suitable, loving home where she could potentially spend her remaining years. However, Athena is not our dog, and we cannot make decisions regarding her ownership or rehoming without her owner's consent.
Unfortunately, communication has become extremely difficult as we have been blocked on the platforms through which we previously communicated.
We would also like to clarify that while Athena's boarding accounts were previously paid, for approximately the past eight months her care has been carried by Delenitor Animal Lodge at our own expense. Despite this, Athena's standard of care, food, comfort and affection have never been compromised.
We continued caring for her because, regardless of circumstances between people, Athena still deserves to be fed, warm, safe and loved.
Delenitor Animal Lodge does not condone naming, shaming, harassment or online attacks against anyone involved. We therefore ask our community to please refrain from doing so on our behalf.
We are a passionate small business with an enormous amount of love for our clients and for every animal we are privileged to care for.
We would also like to make something very clear: Delenitor Animal Lodge is a boarding facility, not an animal shelter or rescue organisation.
There have been circumstances in the past where animals have unexpectedly been left in our care and we have stepped in to help find them suitable homes. We are incredibly proud that those placements were successful, and we remain in contact with many of the wonderful adopters to this day. However, this is not the primary function of our business.
Our responsibility first and foremost is to provide a safe, loving and professional boarding environment for animals entrusted to our care.
For Athena, our priority remains exactly what it has been for the last three years:
Her welfare. Her happiness. Her safety. And ultimately, finding a responsible resolution that puts Athena first. 🐾🤍
We sincerely hope that communication can be restored so that everyone involved can work together toward the outcome that Athena deserves.
