Lavender Stables

Lavender Stables Where horses are loved and people rediscover rest, connection, and belonging. Horse experiences, gentle riding & peaceful livery.

Johan & Madeleine moved to the small farm, which was originally intended to be a
weekend home, in January 2013. Inspired by Madeleine's daughter's love for horses , and Johan's fond memories of horse riding on his uncle's farm as a young boy the couple decided to start a stable yard. They wanted to share the tranquility of the farm with others as well as utilize the existing facilities. They comb

ined Johan's skills as a civil engineer and property developer with Madeleine's business management background and eye for detail to offer a beautiful stable yard with a unique atmosphere. Since moving out to the farm, the stable yard has been upgraded with beautiful bathrooms with shower facilities, two guest houses offering accomodation at special rates to stablers, and a soon to be completed kitchen / rider's lounge. Visitors also have the opportunity to take a stroll or ride through the small private game farm to view the zebra, impala, blesbok, springbok, nyala and ostriches. The deck at the dam was completed in 2019 and offers a stunning place for sundowners or early morning coffee!

Morning coffee by the lake is what the day feels like here before anything is asked of you.

Still water. Soft light. A breath you didn’t know you were holding releasing on its own.

At Lavender Stables Guesthouses, mornings are unhurried. You wake to birds, not alarms. You sit longer than you normally would. You remember what it feels like to move at a human pace again.

If you’ve been needing a pause, this is your invitation to take one.

Feeling overwhelmed? tea doesn’t calm you because it’s “relaxing.”
It calms you because your nervous system reads safety in the simplest language it understands.

Warmth in the hands.
Warmth in the throat.
Warmth in the body.

Your system registers: nothing needs to be defended against right now.

The act of sipping slows your breath.
The warmth activates the body’s rest-and-digest response.
The rhythm brings you back into your body instead of your thoughts.

This is not about tea as a cure.
It’s about what the body responds to:
warmth, slowness, and sensory safety.

And something shifts… quietly.

Not because you forced calm.
But because you created the conditions where calm could arrive.

Sometimes healing is not an event.
It’s a temperature.
A pace.
A return.

Whiskers are highly sensitive navigation tools

Those soft whiskers around a horse’s muzzle aren’t decorative—they’re packed with nerve endings.

Horses use them to sense objects, textures, and distance right in front of their noses (where they actually have a blind spot), especially in low light or while grazing.

Before you even touch a horse, those whiskers are already reading you.

Fast, direct movement = abrupt sensory input
Slow, soft presence = regulated, predictable input

So your energy and pacing aren’t just seen… they’re felt.

When whiskers are removed, that subtle layer of awareness disappears.
Everything becomes more sudden, more uncertain, more overwhelming.

It’s not that different from us.

When our nervous system is dysregulated, we also lose that buffer.
Everything feels sharper, louder, too much.
We react faster—not because we’re difficult, but because we’ve lost our sense of safety in the moment.

Sensitivity isn’t the problem.
It’s information.

There’s a certain moment that happens here, usually without much notice.

A horse settles.
Breathing slows.
The noise of the day softens a little.

And somehow, you do too.

This isn’t something we try to create—it’s just what happens when a space is allowed to be quiet, consistent, and unhurried.

It’s not for everyone.
But for some people, it’s exactly what they’ve been needing.
