paypal.me/Trix4Animals I started Trix 4 Animals as a way to create awareness on the high amounts of animals in need of homes. I then realised this was more than a project and was actually a calling. I left my job of 17 years to pursue Animal Welfare full time. This meant that I lost all incomes and had to rely on donations from supporters and animal lovers to ass

ist me in feeding and caring for the strays I have in kennels and also to assist in vet bills for sick and/or injured doggies that I might get in. I am in the process of finalising my NPO where I will then be able to offer tax certificates to companies and individuals for any financial donations given. What is Needed? What we need most for our dogs is wet and dry food for medium and large breed dogs. We prefer to stick to one brand as mixing brands tend to upset their tummies. Alpo, Pedigree and Montego are the first choices as they are well priced and really healthy for the dogs. Financial assistance to help construct 9 kennels to house the 11 rescues that need to be removed from the boarding kennels by 30 November 2013. Projects:
Trix 4 Animals is involved in a few projects. Below are the main aspects of what Trix 4 Animals is involved in.

1. Promoting Sterilisation and micro-chipping
Trix 4 Animals is very pro-sterilisation due to the millions of animals that are being euthanised yearly in SA. We are very anti-breeding as the supply far outweighs the demand and statistics prove that only one puppy per litter actually finds the perfect home. The others are dumped at shelters, given away in the Junkmail to total strangers or die of disease from not being vaccinated yearly etc. Trix 4 Animals is also a promoter of micro-chipping as that is your ONLY proof of ownership should your pet go missing. We have started our own micro-chipping service in Gauteng where we will go to interested parties homes and micro-chip their pets for a fraction of the costs at some vets. The chips are KUSA recognised and have no annual fees and are traceable through all universal chip scanners. This allows for pet owners to be able to afford to micro-chip their pets as some vets charge very high rates.

2. Assisting owners to re-home their pets
I have noticed how many people are downsizing to smaller homes, emigrating, getting divorced, being retrenched and just HOW MANY animals are in the Junkmail “Free to a good home” and I decided to assist these people in networking their pets on their behalf. Any interested parties then contact me are requested to complete an adoption application form and we conduct home inspections to ensure the dog is well suited for the family and their lifestyle and also that the dog will be cared for and safe at all times. If the home is approved the family sign an adoption contract, pay an adoption fee to cover the vet bills and are then able to take ownership of their dog. The fees we charge depend on what the animal is in need of. ALL our animals we rehome will be micro-chipped, fully vaccinated, de-wormed and sterilised. We also send out yearly reminders to adopters of the annual vaccinations that are due.

3. Helping strays / unwanted animals where possible
Currently I have 11 adult dogs that are being kennelled in Pretoria. They are all in need of homes desperately as some have been there for a year now. I am not taking in anymore dogs as I do not want to take on more that I can handle. I try not to go above 10 dogs as I have severe financial limitations. I tend to their health and wellbeing and cook Chicken and Rice or Mince and Rice for them once a week as a treat. I have another 8 dogs in various foster homes that I am trying to find permanent homes for. Most are stray / unwanted female dogs that are pregnant or have just given birth
I then have another dog that is still with her owner but is in desperate need of a new home.

4. Other tasks we are involved in

All in all we are in this for the animals. We prefer to remain on our own and to remain small and personal as we feel that the politics out there in this industry can be soul destroying. We build relationships with the ex and new owners and try to wherever possible help other shelters in networking the animals they need to home. We especially like to network the SPCA animals as their time is very limited and they are very deserving of loving homes. We assist the majority of the shelters in advertising their events and fundraisers and try where possible to attend these events too as a way to support them. We also assist a few vets in Pretoria by taking photos of and networking the strays that they get in from time to time. If no owners are found we assist the vets in rehoming the dogs. We assist the majority of shelters with home checks in the Pretoria East region

Some of our life beliefs are:

Until there are none, Rescue one
Adoption is the ONLY option
Don’t breed or buy while shelter animals die
Second hand pets make first class family

Good reasons to adopt from shelters......

Animal shelters are saving animals each day and you can free up cage space and enable them to help more animals
You can give an animal a second chance
You can help to prevent more unwanted kittens and puppies from being born as the shelters will organize to sterilize your pet
You help to discourage people from allowing their pets to breed, and then selling the innocent puppies or kittens to pet shops, who often have no scruples and give a kitten or a puppy even to someone who is under age if they have the fee (often as little as R40). Even children are allowed to take home a kitten or puppy without parental consent and then the animal usually ends up dumped at the SPCA or on the street. You are saving money because shelters charge a once off fee that includes costs of vaccinations and sterilization of the animal

YOU ARE OFTEN SAVING THE LIFE OF THE ANIMAL THAT NOBODY ELSE WANTED!

Only a few people are able to open their homes temporarily to a dog in need but a lot of people are able to donate and we are asking those people for support to help us help more dogs in need.
