Eulogy for Georgie, a Beloved Cocker Spaniel

Today, we celebrate the life of a special friend who has touched our hearts in ways only a beloved pet can. Georgie, the sweet and gentle Cocker Spaniel, was more than just a favorite client at our dog salon – he was a presence of joy, a constant source of warmth, and a true companion to all who knew him.

From the moment he first walked through our door, Georgie brought a unique sparkle with him. His soft, wavy coat was only matched by the kindness and love in his eyes. His gentle nature and infectious enthusiasm made him a delight to be around, and he quickly became a part of our salon family.

Georgie wasn’t just another dog; he had a way of making everyone around him feel special. Whether it was his wagging tail when he arrived, the little wiggle in his step, or the way he would nuzzle up for a cuddle, he always knew how to brighten a room. He had a way of melting hearts, not just with his sweet face, but with his loving soul.

He was more than a regular visitor to our salon – Georgie was family. We looked forward to every visit, not just because he was a joy to work with, but because of the bond we shared with him. His loyalty and affection were a reminder of the unconditional love animals give so freely, and we were privileged to be part of his life.

As Georgie embarks on his final journey tomorrow, our hearts are heavy, but we take comfort in knowing that he leaves behind a legacy of love and kindness. He taught us all the importance of living in the moment, enjoying the simple pleasures, and embracing those we love with all our hearts.

Georgie, you will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. Your spirit will remain in the salon, in our hearts, and in every wag of the tail and soft nuzzle that reminds us of you. Thank you for sharing your life with us and for leaving paw prints on our hearts. Rest well, sweet Georgie – you will always have a special place in our hearts.

It is with a heavy heart that I have to announce the passing of a recently retired employee, our dear friend and colleague, Hilda Ntuli.
Hilda was more than just a dog groomer at our parlour; she was a true artist, a caregiver, and a cherished member of our team.

Hilda had a unique way with animals, a gentle touch that could soothe even the most anxious of pets. Her patience, kindness, and dedication to her craft were unmatched. She took pride in her work, treating each dog that came through our doors as if they were her own. The love she showed to every animal was evident in their wagging tails and joyful spirits when they left her care.

But Hilda was more than just her work. She was a friend, a confidante, and a source of warmth and positivity in our lives. Her laughter was contagious, her smile infectious, and her presence comforting. She brought light to our workplace and made it feel like a home.

Hilda's impact on our business, and on each of us personally, is immeasurable. She had a way of making everyone feel valued and appreciated, both two-legged and four-legged alike. Her absence leaves a void that cannot be filled, but her spirit will continue to inspire us every day.

As we say goodbye to Hilda, let us remember the joy she brought to our lives, the kindness she shared with everyone she met, and the love she had for the animals she cared for so deeply. Her legacy will live on in every wagging tail, every happy bark, and every pet that leaves our parlour feeling loved and cherished.

Rest in peace, dear Hilda. You will be forever missed, but never forgotten.

Judy, a purebred pointer, was the mascot of several ships in the Pacific, and was captured by the Japanese in 1942 and taken to a prison camp. There she met Aircraftsman Frank Williams, who shared his small portion of rice with her.
Judy raised morale in the POW camp, and also barked when poisonous snakes, crocodiles or even tigers approached the prisoners. When the prisoners were shipped back to Singapore, she was smuggled out in a rice sack, never whimpering or betraying her presence to the guards.
The next day, that ship was torpedoed. Williams pushed Judy out of a porthole in an attempt to save her life, even though there was a 15-foot drop to the sea. He made his own escape from the ship, but was then recaptured and sent to a new POW camp.
He didn't know if Judy had survived, but soon he began hearing stories about a dog helping drowning men reach pieces of debris after the shipwreck. And when Williams arrived at the new camp, he said: "I couldn’t believe my eyes! As I walked through the gate, a scraggly dog hit me square between the shoulders and knocked me over. I’d never been so glad to see the old girl!"
They spent a year together at that camp in Sumatra. "Judy saved my life in so many ways," said Williams. "But the greatest of all was giving me a reason to live. All I had to do was look into those weary, bloodshot eyes and ask myself: 'What would happen to her if I died?' I had to keep going."
Once hostilities ceased, Judy was then smuggled aboard a troopship heading back to Liverpool. In England, she was awarded the Dickin Medal (the "Victoria Cross" for animals) in May 1946. Her citation reads: "For magnificent courage and endurance in Japanese prison camps, which helped to maintain morale among her fellow prisoners, and also for saving many lives through her intelligence and watchfulness".
At the same time, Frank Williams was awarded the PDSA's White Cross of St. Giles for his devotion to Judy. Frank and Judy spent a year after the war visiting the relatives of English POWs who had not survived, and Frank said that Judy "always provided a comforting presence to the families."
When Judy finally died at the age of 13, Frank spent two months building a granite and marble memorial in her memory, which included a plaque describing her life story.

This is Caroline. She moved overseas with all her animals.
She never wrote on Facebook "I'm giving up my cats and dogs because I'm moving"or I'm having a baby or I've had the animal a year, two years or more and now I suddenly don't have time for it or can't afford to feed it.
So, when you get an animal, remember that it’s a fragile creature, part of the family and must follow you everywhere you go, otherwise don’t get one!!
Be like Caroline.
