Groenkloof Feral Project is a volunteer-based, community-supported non-profit working to create a safer future for cats in and around Groenkloof, Pretoria. We focus on:

🏘 TNR (Trap–Neuter–Return) to reduce the feral cat population humanely

🐾 Rescuing & taming feral-born kittens, giving them a chance at loving homes

❤️ Educating & partnering with the community to end the cycle of suffering

Meet Miemsie, a gorgeous little calico with a heart full of love and so much affection to give. 🩷🐾

For 1️⃣3️⃣0️⃣ days, this sweet girl has watched the world go by from foster care, waiting for someone to choose her. Day after day, she has greeted her foster family with gentle purrs, loving cuddles, and her adorable little chats, never losing hope that her forever family is out there.

Miemsie is the kind of cat who makes a house feel like a home. She loves to snuggle close, follows her people around, and has a funny, playful side that will keep you smiling. Whether she's showing off her catch-playing skills, making you laugh with her antics, or curling up beside you after a long day, Miemsie simply wants to be loved.

🐾 Rescue Update I 3 June 2026 🐾

On Tuesday, 2 June, we received a call about a frightened little kitten in Clydesdale who had somehow found her way into a family's home. With dogs barking, another cat in the house, and nowhere else to go, she had squeezed herself under a cupboard for safety.

The family couldn't reach her and described her as "wild." Shortly afterwards, we received this message:

"We have a feral kitten that has come into one of our neighbour's houses. She can't catch it. 🙈 Are you able to help her?"

That afternoon, we set up a humane trap in the daughter's bedroom and left it overnight. By morning, our tiny visitor was safely inside the trap.

Although terrified and unsure of her surroundings, she was soon treated to a warm bath, flea treatment, and deworming. Most importantly, she was given what every kitten deserves: safety.

This little girl is now warm, secure, and settling into foster care, where she can learn that people aren't so scary after all. 💛

Gorgonzola is a gorgeous sweet girl that has been through a tough time. She was rescued from a place where she hid under beds and in cupboards.
But the moment we approached, all she wanted was head rubs and affection.

She’s still learning to trust, but every day we see her relax a little more and settle more comfortably with us.

Last week she had her spay (sterilised), vaccinations, and microchip done—she recovered really well.

She’s now looking for a calm, patient, loving home where she can continue to feel safe and grow in confidence.

Update: Adopted 🎉

Dune arrived in our care on 7 Nov 2025 as a tiny kitten. Today marks his 205th day in foster care. We would love nothing more than to see him in his very own first home receiving all the love and warmth he deserves.

He is a very lovable, chatty fawn ginger boy. His tough start in life left him with a slightly shorter tail. He learned to trust humans and love deeply. He's the kitty that will jump up onto your lap and snuggle as close as he can get. So gentle - a real softy.

We have put in all the effort to save him from a life on the very busy streets and get him to good health - the stunning boy he is today. Now we need your help to give him the home and life he deserves.

His sister Oasis is also looking for a home - possibly together?

🐾 ADOPTION UPDATE 🐾

It's a celebration of black cats this week — and all the love and joy they bring into our homes! 💛

Pepsie, now named Dexter, was found on Sunday, 26 January, when a message was posted in a local community group about a black cat that had appeared on a property and had been howling throughout the night. The cat was extremely fearful, ran away whenever approached, and the property owner was unable to assist further.

Today, his story looks very different. 💛

He is safe, deeply loved, and settling beautifully into his forever home — his true happily ever after.

We received this heart-melting update from his mom:

"Dexter jol lekker. The best thing I could ever do was adopt him!!! So in love!!!"

Thank you to Marc, Marcelia, and Chantelle for the time, love, and dedication you poured into fostering this darling boy.

And to Chantal — thank you for opening your heart to a kitty from the Groenkloof Feral Project NPO 334-601 and to an adult BLACK cat. 🖤

🐾 Sterilisation Update ✂️💛

This day isn’t just a date on a calendar for Raven "Peanut."
It’s the day the road she was on took a sharp turn.

Not because of a scalpel or a stitch.
But because someone decided that a tiny garden visitor didn’t have to carry the same old weight her ancestors did.

On 17 December, a message arrived:
“A kitten appeared in my garden on Monday. I can’t keep her—my house is full. Who can take her? She’s healthy, curious, about 7–8 weeks old.”

To the Folscher family — your follow-through is everything. You didn't just give Raven a roof; you gave her a future without echoes of suffering. Thank you for honouring the full promise of adoption. 🌟

🐾 ADOPTION UPDATE 🐾

A huge, heartfelt thank you to the Stuart-Delange family for opening your hearts and home to our Coffee, now Destroyer/Nyx — and for choosing an older rescue kitten and a black kitten through the Groenkloof Feral Project NPO 334-601 🖤😺🤍

Coffee/Destroyer/Nyx’s rescue journey with us began on October 2025, when we were alerted to kittens living under a staircase in Sunnyside. She then spent 198 days in foster care, waiting patiently for her big day to arrive.

It’s happy endings like these that keep us going through the toughest days and cases — knowing that these kitties never have to relive the difficult lives they started with.

Today, our hearts are full knowing that Coffee/Destroyer/Nyx will be cherished, cuddled, and loved unconditionally for the rest of her days. 🖤

💬 A special update from her mom:
“Fysh says she was very busy last night 🤣🤣🤣 but they’ve really bonded. She comes when he calls her, she loves being picked up, and she demands his attention. She’s staying in his space for now as it’s large and close to the busiest part of the house. Pretty sure she’s his cat now 🤣🤦🏼‍♀️
She loves sitting on his shoulders. She hides away when I come into the room, but she’s obsessed with Fysh. She’s a real lovable little nightmare. And if you say no, she listens… mostly.”

A very special thank you to all of her fosters — Katherine, Rachel, Chantelle, Limor, and Josie — for loving her and caring for her until she was ready for adoption.
