Meet our team:
Star of Katelands✨️
Our AMAZING🏆🏆 Kate Roberts 🏆🏆
Favourite Horse's name:
Hushy was my heart horse. How can I pick a favourite 🫣. I love competing on Menty, i love how much she enjoys it too. Honey brings me so much endless joy. I just love Ben and Jimmy's personalities. Lady will always carry a special place in my heart. I love all our horses, they each have a very special place in my heart.
Why you started riding:
I started as a toddler in diapers. My parents have always had horses, I can't imagine my life without horses. They have been my therapist, best friend, teammate, companions, and my happy place for as long as I can remember.
What you love most about horse riding:
I love and appreciate the life lessons that come with horses. Without horses, I wouldn't have been as mentally prepared as I am for the fight of my life. For those of you who don't know, I have melanoma cancer. I love the challenges that come with each individual horse, I love figuring them out and educating them in a better way to go.
Favourite moment with a horse/your horse:
My favourite moments have been the quiet moments at night, just sitting ba****ck on my horses in their stables, listeninng to them munching on their teff. Pony club rallys growing up made for an incredible childhood, where I build friendships that I treasure today. Galloping around a challenging xc tracks with a horse that loves it perhaps even more than I do.
What your dream/goal is for your riding career:
My dream/goal, is to share the good, the bad, the beautiful and everything inbetween with children in our community. I am the strongest believer that it's the challenging days that count the most. I want to inspire the younger generations to believe in themselves, that no matter what life throws at them, there is always beauty to be found and mindset is what will help them to overcome any hurdles in their lives.
Your best achievement so far:
I adopted Hushy from ECHCU days before he was going to put down, because he was considered dangerous as he would flip over backwards with jockeys. But all he needed was someone to understand him and love him. I took him from nothing to 3* eventing (at the time, the highest level in SA). We did this without the training facilities and opportunities that we currently have at Katelands. I was blessed with incredible families at Katelands who helped me to travel the country.
