TOO MANY CATS. TOO FEW HOMES.

Every day, animal welfare organisations, rescuers and caregivers are faced with the same heartbreaking reality: there are simply too many kittens being born and not enough homes for them.

The number of unsterilised cats has reached a crisis point. Shelters are overwhelmed, rescue spaces are full, and resources to assist feral colonies are stretched beyond their limits.

Many people believe that finding homes for kittens will be easy, but the truth is that thousands of unwanted kittens are born every year. Many face lives of hunger, disease, injury and suffering.

This is not a problem that animal welfare organisations can solve alone.

The solution starts with responsible pet ownership.

✔ Sterilise your female cats before they have a litter.
✔ Sterilise your male cats to prevent unwanted breeding.
✔ Encourage friends, family and neighbours to do the same.
✔ Support sterilisation programmes in your community.

Every cat sterilised today helps prevent countless kittens from being born into a life of uncertainty and hardship tomorrow.

Please don't wait until there are kittens. Prevention is always kinder than rescue.

Be responsible.
Sterilise your cats.
Help reduce suffering.

Together, we can make a difference.

One Person, Many Roles 🐱🫏 🔬 🥼

We know it can be extremely frustrating when you can't reach your vet or they are unable to come out. This is the unfortunate reality of a shortage of vets, economic pressure and the many strains on the profession. It is always important to have a contingency plan and discuss with your vet what alternative options there are before an emergency occurs.

So what keeps Dr Kat so busy? 🐾

1. Davis Veterinary Services 🩺

Dr Kat is the owner and sole vet, treating a huge variety of animals. This includes consultation, surgery and a mobile service.

2. Principle Veterinarian of AACL PE 🐕

Dr oversees the clinic section of the PE branch, managing locums, administration, mass sterilization campaigns and performing consults and surgery.

3. Veterinarian for NHRA (National Horse Racing Authority) in Gqeberha 🏇

Gqeberha hosts a minimum of 5 race meetings per month at Fairview Race course. These occur every Friday with the remainder on open week days. Dr Kat attends the meetings to assess that the horses are fit to run, maintain horse welfare and attend to any injuries.

4. Equine Competition 🎠

Dr Kat is involved with a variety of equine disciplines and assists in several different capacities namely as an FEI Permitted Treating Vet, an FEI Welfare Officer, equine drug testing and as on site veterinarian.

5. Locum Vet

Dr Kat locums at several practises. Not only is it nice to stay in touch with colleagues but it is great to widen the knowledge base.

6. Welfare ♥️

Welfare is a big passion of ours and we assist several non profit organizations with consultation, surgery and occasionally sedation and capture of the more difficult patients.

When she isn't working, Dr Kat can be found riding, running, cycling or spending time with her many pets, including a cow called Tofu! 🐮

So please try to remember to always WhatsApp message first (Dr Kat is almost never in a position to be able to answer her phone) and use the office number for bookings and queries. We always try to assist where we can but we are also only human ❤️
