The bar-cheek coral trout that I painted here, is one of the most striking apex reef predators. I wanted to portray a very vibrant coral reef with many recognizable species. This commissioned original is quite a large piece (90cm x 120cm), and there are still a few limited-edition canvas prints available (80 signed and numbered).

I am working on a new smallmouth yellowfish painting and this is the concept drawing in preparation for the painting. As is the case with some lower orange river fish, they have very swollen lips from feeding on mussels in between rocks.

The tropical reefs are home to many predators, and one of the most respected species is the giant trevally. It is universally recognized for its brute strength and overall presence.
In this painting I wanted to translate this idea onto canvas as I imagined myself underwater observing perspective. I enjoyed building up the details, bit by bit, slowly creating depth.

Sailfish are highly adapted to a pelagic life where being on the move is a necessity and catching prey requires agility and speed. Sailfish are one of the fastest fish in the ocean and they herd baitfish into a baitball by using their dorsal "sails". While they are feeding, they display vivid contrasting colour confusing the little fish.

Its been almost 15 years since finishing "Iggy Pop" (acrylic on board 70cm x 50cm). It was a painting that kickstarted my career in many ways. The inspiration for this painting came from a trip I had to Mozambique's Hells Gate, fishing off a rubber duck 100 meters from the shore with a pushing tide and turbulent water. Three or four large GT's were spotted and seconds later I had a massive surface hit and an unbelievable fight.
This painting was sold straight away. It is still a very popular print and is available in two size options on canvas - 65cm x 43cm or 75cm x 52cm

I don't only paint fish, in fact, I have done a number of wildlife paintings over the years. Here is a commission I did quite a few years ago, when I was starting to become serious about art as a career.
