DID YOU KNOW?

Female giraffes give birth standing up. The result?Newborns are welcomed to the world with a 1.5m drop to the ground! Ouch!!
But this helps to break the umbilical cord, protect the baby's long neck and encourage the baby to take her first breath and these infants are quick to get on their feet- within 30 minutes they are standing, and only hours later they are able to run with their mothers.

Yesterday we welcomed this family of sables to the Game Reserve.
One of our guides managed to take a few snaps of them wondering around, checking out their new home and meeting 'new friends".

The Cape Buffalo's curved horns add to the stature of an already imposing animal, which can reach seven feet from tip to tail. Horns can help distinguish age and s*x. In large adult males, the horns meet in the middle of their heads and are joined by a hard shield and this creates a helmet-esque formation. The horns are used for defense and to determine dominance for mating.
Females also have horns that are narrower and smaller.

Book your 2 hour game drive/horse safari and get a chance of spotting the Cape Buffalo at Plett Game Reserve.

FACILITIES AT PLETT GAME RESERVE

The visitor center at Plett Game Reserve offers comforts for guests who are about to go on or who have just returned from a game drive or horseback safari.

In summer, relax in the coolness of the lounge with an ice cold drink, or huddle up in front of the fire with a coffee during winter. Play a game of snooker while you wait, browse the merchandise or read a book in a cosy corner and lose yourself in Africa.

Up at the Baroness Lodge we have boma facilities for functions or a special occasion overlooking the dam where hippos sometimes wallow.

Visit https://www.plettgamereserve.com/ for further details.
