Parvovirus remains a serious concern, especially for puppies. It spreads easily and can be life-threatening, but vaccination provides strong protection. We still see parvovirus cases every summer.

Puppies are most at risk, particularly if they are not fully vaccinated. If you’ve recently welcomed a new puppy, chat to us about the right vaccination schedule. Prevention is always better than treatment, and we’re here to guide you through it.

Call us, or use the link below, to book your puppy's vaccinations today.

Summer often means more time outdoors, socialising, and exposure to other animals. Making sure your pet’s vaccinations are up to date helps protect them from preventable diseases during this busy time of year.

If you’re not sure when your pet’s last vaccination was, now is a good time to check. You can check their Book of Life (also known as their vaccination booklet), or give us a call and we can help! Staying up to date helps keep your pet protected and gives you peace of mind.

Warm weather and summer rainfall create ideal conditions for ticks, fleas, and mosquitoes to thrive in KZN. These parasites are more than just irritating — they can transmit serious diseases, cause anaemia, trigger allergic skin reactions, and significantly affect your pet’s overall wellbeing.

Consistent, vet-recommended parasite prevention is essential during summer months. Skipping treatments or delaying doses can leave pets vulnerable at exactly the time they need protection most.

Ask us about our range of effective flea and tick treatments to keep your pets protected all season long!

KZN summers can place significant strain on pets, particularly during hot, still days when temperatures climb quickly. Dogs, cats, and birds all struggle to regulate their body temperature as efficiently as humans, which means heat stress and dehydration can develop faster than many you realise.

Always ensure your pet has access to fresh water throughout the day, shaded areas to rest in, and a cool indoor space during peak heat. Excessive panting, drooling, lethargy, vomiting, excessive panting, or weakness are early warning signs that should never be ignored. If your pet seems “not quite themselves” in the heat and humidity, it’s safest to have them checked sooner rather than later.

A few weeks ago we had the honour of welcoming Boris the Bearded Vulture to the clinic for a check-up. The Bearded Vulture is a rare and remarkable species, uniquely adapted to the high Drakensberg mountains and surviving on a specialist diet of bones — a lifestyle found nowhere else in the bird world.

This magnificent bird is a flagship of the Drakensberg ecosystem, but its numbers are critically low, with fewer than a few hundred individuals remaining in the wild.

We’re proud to support Bred 4 the Wild , the dedicated conservation programme working to breed and reintroduce these birds back into their mountain home. Boris’s visit is a reminder of why this work is so important and why every effort to protect native wildlife matters.
