What a busy and exciting weekend. you did not disappoint. Fantastic 10km run and then seconding for and in the 42km. What a privilege to see run past us, was magical

Went for a walk around the farm this morning and it felt like magic.
The vines are showing off their winter colours right now, and the whole place looks unreal.
Even better - I met the horses and riders out on their ride and a little farther on was a herd of eland, springbuck and zebra out grazing. Not a bad way to start the day.

Took Vaderlandsche Selene to First Thursday jumping just to see how she would handle it. Well she blew me away, first time at a show, in an enclosed indoor and first time over jumps with bright colourful wings, she did not put a foot wrong. We backed her 5 months ago and then left her in the paddock to play and grow, put a saddle on her again 3 days before the show and she just took it all in her stride and has the temperament just like her dad. She is a 3 year old filly by Il Sisley out of a National Assembly mare. .media thank you sale

MYTH: THE STALLION IS MORE IMPORTANT THAN THE MARE IN BREEDING

We hear this one a lot, and it makes sense when one considers how stallion names dominate pedigrees, but the science tells a different story.

Research consistently shows that mitochondrial DNA, passed exclusively through the dam line, plays a significant role in athletic performance, energy metabolism, and even temperament. Some of the most influential bloodlines in world showjumping trace back not to a famous stallion, but to a single exceptional mare.

Carthina Z is just one perfect example. A relatively quiet name compared to the stallions who feature in her pedigree, and yet her descendants have shaped modern showjumping in ways that are still rippling through results today.

The sires get the spotlight, but the mares build the dynasties.

It's fantastic to see how our farm has flourish post-move. The youngsters are enjoying the track, our honestly top farrier checking and trimming the mares and foals. I'm completely smitten with the evolving patchwork coat on this sweet foal.
