We are an independent school filling the gap that exist in the horse guide industry. The course however includes information similar to level 1 field guide information, only factual knowledge! Two courses to be held in 2020: 1 March - 30April and 1September - 31 October. We will assist students to find work in the Horse Industry. Jarique: Remember to always do pre-flight checks. A horse is a living creature and it could be that something is not right. (Teeth, stomach, limping, etc) So pre-flight checks is a must!

Jarique: It is all about gaining your horse's trust. Remember they are prey animals, to them everything is scary (about to catch and eat them). A horse like Jarique is especially scared, and it sometimes take extreme measures to get them to trust the handler.

Jarique: Moving hindlegs and frontlegs. Your horse should stand deadstill when being saddled. Jarique still has an issue with taking the bit. It is good to practise picking up your horses hooves, even if you just scrape away stones, etc.

Jarique: When you approach your horse (in the ring or outside) it should trust you enough to wait for you (not run away) or come when called. Jarique is still scared of sudden movements close to his face. This is week 2: his flexing is really good. Hold the pressure until he gives way, and then you should release. Remember what you do on one side you should always repeat on the other side. Horses are left- and right-brained.

Jarique: Sometimes being outside is scarier than being in the ring> It is always good to do groudwork outside the ring. He is very scared of the handler taking of his hat.

Jarique: Pre-flight checks!! What you do on the one side, you have to repeat on the other side.

Jarique: He is refusing to take the bit. It took Deon quite a while. Even when we tried it with molasses syrup, at a later stage. Maybe there are some problems with his teeth, so we will have to get someone to come and check it out

Jarique: Really fearful of sudden movements and noise. When you saddle your horse, it should be grounded! (Meaning it should stand completely still).

Jarique: Having a Horse follow a scary object, the Horse tends to lose some of that extreme fear. Struggling a bit in the beginning with back-ups, but did really well in the end.
