It is great sadness that my Champion as I called him Legionnaire affectionately known in the ring as The Wippert passed away today. Even though he only stood 15.3h he could jump a mountain winning a World Cup Qualifier as well as many other completions together with his rider Simon Simon Hendry they were a force to be reconned with . Rest In Peace my precious boy and fly high in the sky 💔💔💔

Very proud of Two of my horses Franlaren Lord of the Stars and Franlaren Beau des Trois, both of who gained 65.65 and 65.45 in their very first dressage show, Novice 2 test coming 4th and 5th respectively. In the second test, Novice 3, they reversed their order with Franlaren Beau des Trois achiving 65,63, 4th place and Franlaren Lord of the Stars with 61.38, 5th place. Both horses ridden superbly by Tana von Eackarstein who has only been riding these horses for just over one month, you are a very talented young lady Tanya, thank you.

The first show of the year proved a very successful one with Franlaren Etoile du Soir winnining the 1.10 class ridden by Ryan Sander. This was Franlaren Etoile du Soirs first show in over a year. Franlaren Belle Vie won the 1.20 class also ridden by Ryan Sander and went on to compete in her first 1.30 class which she did with great ease. Sunday morning saw Franlaren Evonna competing in her very first show and did remarkably well by being placed 7th. Both horses, Franlaren Lord of Stars went clear as did Franlaren Lorenzo in the 1.00m classes. A very big thank you to Ryan on doing such a splended job on the Franlaren Horses. I have no doubt that the year will continue with success. And a big thanks to Bronwyn for putting on a lovely show at Cruisa. See you at the next one in February.

33yr old Simon Hendry rides the 18yr old bay SAWB (by Larry de le Bryere Last Step) Principal Legionnaire in the Open classes.
We asked him some questions about Legionnaire:

Q: What is his stable name or nickname?
A: We call him the Whippet - he is very quick against the clock!
Q: How/where did you get him or where is he from?
A: I was lucky enough to get the ride from Franlaren STUD about 4 years ago. We have built up a great partnership in that time.
Q: How long have you had them?
A: 4 years
Q: What's his fave treat?
A: Anything!! Especially after he has worked. He will not leave you alone until he has had something.
Q: Tell us one thing most people don't know about him?
A: Even though he has his own paddock you hardly ever find him in it... He loves visiting all the other horses so jumps from paddock to paddock as the company suits him.

Thanks Simon, we're looking forward to seeing you and your boy at the WCQ on the 30th of October at Maple Ridge!

Pretoria based Tracy Davids (30) rides the dark 16 yr SAW Franlaren Lord Larrymore and the 10yr old chestnut SAW Franlaren Beau Biggles (who turns 11 the day before the WCQ show starts, on 26 October!)

We asked Tracy some questions about her horses:
Q: What are their stable name or nicknames?
A: Biggles and Larry, no nicknames ;-)
Q: How/where did you get them or where are they from?
A: They were both bred by Franlaren STUD in Midrand and Lynne Francioso from the stud still owns both of them, Tracy says she is just lucky enough to compete them ;-)
Q: How long have you had them?
A: I started riding Biggles when he was 5 or 6 and started riding Larry last year
Q: What's their fave treat?
A: Biggles - carrots for sure, Larry would be a toss up between carrots and molasses treats
Q: Tell us one thing most people don't know about them?
A: Biggles could be Houdini - he seems to be able to open anything designed to keep the stable door closed!

Thanks Tracy, we're looking forward to seeing you and your boys at the WCQ on the 30th of October at Maple Ridge!

LIVING THE LEGACY

Larry de la Bryere Last Step won the overall series of the WCQ ridden by Dominey Alexander in 2008, and was runner up the following year. His progeny Franlaren Lord Larrymore has won three WCQ's ridden by Michelle Stafford and now another of his progeny Principal Legionnaire ridden by Simon Hendry won the WCQ at the Equidome 22 May 2016. What a wonderful stallion Last Step was, his legacy lives on.
